Just when you think you’ve seen it all - it gets worse.

This little girl now known as Lira, has clearly not had an easy life. Dumped in homestead and taking refuge under cars, she was so afraid to trust anyone, we weren’t able to rescue her until 2am that day.

Lira was left abandoned with no more than a bowl of food. When found, she was starving and limping and was later found to have an infected abscess actively draining in the dirt. After taking her home, a wonderful person was able to foster her and assist in providing the necessary treatments to make her comfortable.

Unfortunately, the severity of the abscess was beyond what we imagined; it was discovered that the abscess ended up applying so much pressure to the spine that it began to alter and now requires multiple surgeries in order for her to live comfortably.

She will need what is called a Femoral Head Ostectomy, “FHO”, in order to allow her to walk without assistance. An FHO is a surgical procedure that aims to restore pain-free mobility to a diseased or damaged hip, by removing the head and neck of the femur (the long leg bone or thighbone). Because she’s still young, there’s hope she will adapt and run with all the other dogs!

As of now, we’ve run diagnostics to examine her condition. Although her prognosis was poor, we don’t want to abandon her the way her deserter did. Despite her many hardships, she’s never given up. She continues to try to stand and persevere through her trials and tribulations and hasn’t let them keep her from being her cheerful puppy self. So who are we to deny her that? We’ve vowed to take care of her and do as much as we need to in order to assure a happy future for her.

However, these surgeries will be incredibly costly. We can not do this alone and require every bit of help anyone can muster.

If anyone can spare $1 or $5, any amount at all helps build up for her brighter future.

I’ll be posting her updates, we can’t thank you enough for your support and hope Lira will be pain free sooner rather than later!
