Saving Julian's sight

Keratoconus is a progressive eye disease in which the cornea thins and bulges out, becoming cone-shaped. This cone shape that the cornea adopts prevents light from being focused correctly on the retina, progressively causing a loss of vision. In cases when keratoconus is mild, it is mostly treatable with hard contact lenses, however, when the disease is severe, surgery is the only form of treatment in order to prevent further loss of vision. Two years ago my brother was diagnosed with keratoconus; by then he had lost about 30-40% of vision in his left eye. He began treatment with hard contacts but it didn’t work very well. The contacts never adjusted to his eyes and he could see better without the contacts than with them. Today, two years later, he has lost 70% of vision in his left eye and all there is to do to stop the disease from progressing is having surgery. However, this surgery, which consists of reforming the bonds between the molecules in the cornea, costs between $2,500-$4,000 per eye and it’s not covered by insurance. At the moment my parents don’t have the means to cover the costs of surgery and they are doing what they can so that my brother can get the surgery as soon as possible. All I want to do is help but I don’t have the money either, so I am going to my last resort. I myself went to the doctor today and was told that there is a slight chance that I may be developing the same disease. The doctor explained how critical it is to have surgery during the early stages of the disease and it was then that I realized how real my brother’s situation is. It breaks my heart to know that I didn’t try to help hard enough earlier and it breaks my heart to put myself in my brothers shoes, knowing that he’s losing his sight while he stands helpless because he doesn’t have the means. It would mean the world to me if you could contribute to the cause; I am usually a person who doesn’t like to ask for help because I am too proud thinking I can do everything myself. But I can’t do this on my own, I need all the help I can get so I can help my little brother keep as much of his sight as possible. Thank you❤️
