Meet isla! Isla was abandoned in a neighborhood park in Bayamón Puerto Rico, where she found refuge in an empty garage. Not much else is known about her past. I originally volunteered as a “flight angel” to escort this pup back to the states. But Isla was just headed to another shelter. The instant I met Isla at the San Juan airport I fell in love. I knew at that moment that she was meant to come and bring a piece of our beautiful island back home with us, so as we waited for the plane I filled out the adoption paperwork.
Unfortunately Islas tough times didn’t end there. Within 24hours of having Isla home we found ourselves in the ER. Doctors believed she was just stressed from the move and had some GI problems so we went home with probiotics. Isla unfortunately kept getting worse, she was not eating, drinking, and profusely getting sick with bloody stools and vomit. The following day Isla stayed the night in the ICU where they diagnosed her with hemorrhagic gastroenteritis which in some cases could be fatal. She showed signs of improvement so they released her the following day. As time continues Isla however doesn’t seem to be getting any better. Today is our 3rd time in the ER and the vet no longer believes Isla has hemorrhagic gastroenteritis but has no idea what could be causing her suffering. As anyone with fur babies can imagine the costs for her treatment have become quite extensive as we continue to search for answers as to what is wrong with our poor girl. We will not stop trying to give Isla the life she has always deserved full of love, under a roof, and surrounded by toys. But we unfortunately have to resort to asking you all for your help to let us continue our fight in saving Isla ✨
