Meet IKEA.

Yes, like the furniture store… because unfortunately, she arrived with one defective part.

This tiny Siamese kitten was found at

a construction site over the holiday weekend, laying beside her already deceased sibling. A kind stranger saw her there and knew if he walked away, her story would likely end the same way her sibling’s did. So he scooped her up and rushed her to the emergency veterinary hospital where I work.

The ER team contacted my rescue, Animal House of Southeast Michigan, hoping we would be willing to take her in. Without hesitation, the answer was yes.

What we didn’t know yet was just how severe her injuries were.

IKEA’s leg is catastrophically broken and has become necrotic, meaning the tissue is dying. She urgently needs an amputation surgery to save her life. Normally, our rescue works closely with lower-cost rescue veterinary partners, but because this happened over a holiday weekend, those clinics are closed. Waiting is simply not an option for her.

That means her surgery must be performed through the emergency hospital — a cost far beyond what our rescue can typically absorb alone.

But leaving her to suffer was never an option either.

Despite everything she has already endured, IKEA is sweet, bright-eyed, and fighting so hard. And the beautiful thing about cats is that they do not mourn the life they almost had. They adapt. They overcome. They survive.

Soon, IKEA will come into foster care where she will heal, learn to zoom around on three legs, and hopefully grow into the long, healthy, happy tripod kitty she was always meant to be.

Right now, we are asking for help to get her there.
