I am reaching out through Go Fund Me to help save my traditional Tae Kwon Do school, Song Choe College Of Tae Kwon Do, in Irving, Texas. One of the oldest schools in the country, it was founded in 1971 by 6th Degree and eventually 8th Degree Grand Master Hwa Song Choe. Master Choe was number one of eight Master Instructors selected and then sent to the United States by the South Korean government to set up schools to educate the American public about the traditional Korean martial art. This heritage makes my school unique in today’s crowded martial arts world.
The school stresses physical and personal development for all ages through the implementation of 5 major virtues ---COURTESY, INTEGRITY, PERSEVERANCE,
SELF-CONTROL and INDOMITABLE SPIRIT.
Grand Master Choe passed away prematurely in January, 1992 and the school since that time has been owned and managed by 5th Degree Master Clifford Bird. It was under his tutelage that I attained the level of 4th Degree and both my younger brother and sister attained black belt levels as well.
Last Week was my birthday and through Facebook, Master Bird wished me a Happy Birthday. That was also the day I discovered that Song Choe College of Tae Kwon Do may have to close its doors because of the Covid-19 virus and mandatory lock down by county and state governments. The extended closure has meant there has been no students so no income except for a few small donations. Like the majority of small owner-operator businesses, monthly cash flow is the key to survival and without it there is none.
I decided I wanted to do something to help the school and having learned from my training at Song Choe College not to give up without a fight, I’ve decided to take action to find a way to save my school using Go Fund Me. I am reaching out to save my school using Go Fund Me. I am reaching out to all those who care about traditional and historical Tae Kwon Do and would like to help one of its foundational United States schools survive Covid-19 crisis and continue to be of benefit to its community and beyond.
Please consider what you heart may bring to donate to my school so it may continue its almost 50-year-old mission of helping all types of people reach physical goals and personal betterment.
