I truly have never done this before so please bare with me!

Im writing this in hopes to save Hau’oli Haven from being closed. Hau’oli Haven is an Early Childhood Education Center that has been operating for almost 3 years by the lovely Ms. Dori. If you could take the time out of your day to read this post, we, as parents of Hau’oli Haven students, would greatly appreciate it❤️ No donation is too big or too small. All is appreciated. We would like to give Ms. Dori some cushion to help her find a new location to lease!

Aloha Hau'oli Haven Valued Parents and 'Ohana,

It is with an extremely heavy heart that I send this email letter out to you collectively, on behalf of Hau'oli Haven. It's one of the most difficult letters I have ever written, to say the least.

Many families whose keiki have been enrolled with Hau'oli Haven, are familiar with our story. How we opened the doors in the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, and began with one keiki for the first two months of operations. How intent we were, and still are, to be a beacon of happiness for keiki!

I'm confident we have done just that. We've served a significant number of keiki throughout the past 2.5 years including three sets of twins in one summer! We've created an incredibly enriching program of gladness, health, safety, affection and total care and have never wavered from our mission to make keiki happy.

We've had some of the strongest community contributing families we could have ever asked for come through our doors. Including firefighters, nurses, county workers, state workers, a doctor, Army service, Navy service, nurses, non-profit org owners, those who work from home, students, foster families and more. We've accomodated every family that has ever needed us.

We're so proud of providing this early education to families on the big island and have delivered immensely on growing abilities, skills and knowledge daily with each and every keiki we've ever had the privilege of serving throughout our operations.

Hau'oli Haven has strived to help this community by offering a hands-on structured program of stability, intentionally keeping the numbers smaller than most centers, very often. In doing so, we've delivered an incredibly personal adult to child ratio, the likes no one else offers, rest assured.

This amazing program we're very proud of creating was started with a simple plan my daughter Tiffany (with two college degrees) in California, and I created. We started Hau'oli Haven as an LLC. after I lost my job during the pandemic. My grown children, Tiffany and Ty Lovell, are the apples of my eye, as your keiki are to you, and also to me. Tiffany and Ty had amazing preschool experiences whilst raising them, mostly as a single mother on Oahu, which is where I'm from. These experiences and a total love for keiki are what nurtured this chosen path of human service.

Early childhood education is a work of heart for a much larger good. Pouring positive energy and all good things into each and every keiki is a priority at Hau'oli Haven. This is my ethical and soulful approach to guiding young children for more than 21 years, impacting thousands of young children throughout my career. It's been the greatest joy and honor.

My mantra; find the key to a child's heart and the rest falls into place. Young keiki are my positive motivating force.

I'm sharing my story with you with tears in my eyes, I hope you know I deeply love and cherish your keiki and that it shows in everything you see and feel with your keiki at Hau'oli Haven.

I'm struggling to tell all of you something that has just been announced to me literally today, about our current building lease. The owners, have gone unbeknownst to me, and offered us no option to carry out a new lease term, offering this space to another business, taking it out from under me.

I am now unable to save Hau'oli Haven.

Our license renewal comes up before the end of June 2023, and I have a decision to make whether to close at the end of April 2023, or close Hau'oli Haven once the lease is up, to the minute on Friday, June 30, 2023. These are the questions at hand.

We are forced to close our doors at the will of these building owners. I am brokenhearted, needless to say. We serve a specific need in the community no one else can fill.

Hau'oli Haven is an absolutely amazing center with a heartbeat of joy for keiki. We've worked day and night to keep our center alive and thriving. I am devastated to tell you all of this. I don't want to leave families in a lurch, above that to lose your beloved keiki this way.

I want to assure you, all that said, that I am shopping for new spaces and a new lease to continue Hau'oli Haven at another location. It has to be ready for licensing and is a huge feat, though not impossible. I would love for each and every one of you to come with us to a new site, once that happens. I am immediately moving toward that remedy. I have no specifics yet.

I am so deeply sorry this is happening. I fought very hard against this, to fall on deaf ears, and I still have absolutely no answers, bewildered as to why they're forcing us to close like this. We've been wonderful tenants, responsible, caring and helping families.

This is deeply traumatic to us. I have not said one word to our keiki, so let's strategically plan that news, together and then in sync, please. We must protect their mental health. My recommendation is it's much too early for a talk like that to happen.

If you'd like to write letters of support, as one parent just suggested, that would give keiki a voice.
