Since the last album release, I’ve spent the last year reflecting and writing and having new experiences and adventures in Muscle Shoals, AL, the birth place of some of the greatest music in American history. Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Paul Simon, George Michael, Wilson Pickett, Willie Nelson, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Joe Cocker, Levon Helm, Bob Seger, Rod Stewart, Cher, Cat Stevens are just a few artists who have recorded major hit songs in Muscle Shoals. If you have watched the documentary about Muscle Shoals, you’ll know that they say “There’s something in the water.” And, after my stay, I have to agree. I wrote many songs during my time there, exploring themes that the landscape reflected to me in my experiences. Themes of storms, ghosts, rivers and dams, love and betrayal, and the light of Grace that always comes after the storm. I have begun to work on these songs in the studio, but to finish them and bring them to the world, I need the help of my music loving fans and supporters. I’m so excited to be creating this new EP of songs from the Shoals with one of my favorite producers, Patrick Tetreault. Patrick is a very seasoned engineering artist in this business, and, actually, he worked on my first album (Lay It Down) back in 2009 in Portland. Now he resides in the Shoals with so many other great talents, where we have had a chance to work together again, both of us having so much more experience and wisdom to bring to the table this time around. I can tell you that what we have begun to create is already some of my favorite work to date. His production talents in combination with these beautiful new songs and your help, will create something really special. I have set my initial goal at $3333. Why? Because I like 3’s. ;) But, also, this goal will help us immediately finish producing and mixing the few songs we have begun. If we can get to 5k, we can add some more songs. Heck, if we could get to 8k, we could have a full album. Lord knows, I have the songs ready to go. It’s just a matter of how much support we can get to make this happen. If you know anything about the cost of recording music, you’ll know this is an amazingly low cost in comparison to what it could be. I spent 14k on my first album, 10k on a 5 song EP. But, this time, we are doing our best to create most cost effectively, indie style, while still preserving the integrity of the art, and making it the best that it can be. We will be using a Grammy winning mix engineer, and some other incredible talents from the Shoals area, supporting the local music industry there, which I believe is only right, given that these songs came from my experiences here. All money will go to recording, mixing, mastering, supporting local musicians, and artwork and promotion. We all know that the music industry is struggling and needs its patrons to support and keep the music alive. Our fans and supporters are our Saving Grace. And, appropriately enough, that will be the title for this new project. Your support is literally everything. It gifts us with the ability to do the work we were born to do, and bring our gifts to the world, in a time when they are most needed. Every dollar given will be used to make this EP (or album!) the best art it can be. There is no amount too small. If you only have $5, that’s amazing. I know we have thousands of supporters and listeners. If just 1000 people gifted $5, we’d have surpassed our goal and on to the next! If 100 people gifted $33, we’d meet our first goal.
