Please help me to help Ella a beautiful 9yr Shih Apso, I agreed to take care of after her elderly owner passed on.
Your donation will go towards the £5600 emergency operation she had to undergo to save her left eye.
Now diagnosed with dry eye, she needs life long eye drops to minimise her risk of losing her eyes from infection/ulcers in the future. 1 bottle of tacrolimus drops is £100. Her bill keeps rising with post op and after/future care.
The story.... I took Ella to vets with conjunctivitis in both eyes, with one having a sudden visible indentation (seen in picture). She was given drops and asked to return in 4 days.
That 4th day after seeing her ulcer had gotten bigger, we were referred to an optometrist for an emergency consultation 81 miles away. Ella was diagnosed with a deep melting ulcer.
The options I had that Friday evening were, leave with eye drops and hope her eye doesn't rupture over the weekend, due to the ulcer penetrating the two main layers of the eye ball this was extremely likely or have her admitted with nurses administering drops 2 hourly to preserve what good tissue was there and complete a CCT (corneal-conjunctival transposition) on her eye in the morning. Having her eye removed post rupture was just as expensive if not more than having surgery to save her left eye and sight. This involved cutting out the ulcer and grafting good tissue from the back of the eye and stitching it in place. The choice wasn't easy but felt I had to try and save her eye dispite the costs.
Ella has come home 9th Aug 25 after a successful graft on her eye. She has 6 different eye drops (equating to 26 drops throughout the day), pain relief and antibiotics. She's a trooper, we're not out of the woods yet but there is light! in both eyes! I have her insured but maxed out the amount of just £2500. I thought I'd insured her for enough as she's always with me on walks and a lap dog at home. She loves her countryside and beach walks alongside lazing in the garden in full sunshine.
She's my best friend whom I love and adore.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts if you can help.
If you're unable to donate, please kindly share along and across as many platforms as you're able.
We are most grateful
