Who We Are: Horses & Hieroglyphs is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating mistreated and neglected working horses in Egypt. Unlike in other regions, rescuing horses in Egypt presents unique challenges, including high purchase prices, negotiation difficulties, and limited access to veterinary care and quality feed. Our mission is to provide these horses with the rehabilitation, medical attention, and nutrition they need to recover and find suitable long-term placements.

Why We Need Land: Right now, our ability to rescue more horses is limited by space and the high cost of feed. By securing land, we can: ✅ Provide a safe home for more rescued horses. ✅ Grow our own feed to reduce rising food costs. ✅ Improve facilities for rehabilitation and recovery.

The Perfect Location – Why This Is Urgent: We have identified the ideal piece of land in the perfect location—close to our current facility, making it easier to manage operations, transport horses, and maintain continuity of care. This land meets all our needs for space, accessibility, and sustainability. However, time is of the essence! The seller has other potential buyers, and if we don’t act fast, we could lose this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to expand our rescue efforts. We need to raise the deposit quickly to secure this land before it’s sold to someone else!

Project Scope:

This will allow us to accommodate at least 20 rescues at a time (current capacity allows for only 1-2 rescues at a time).

Project Timeline:

How It Works: Our horses come from all over Egypt. Sometimes we come across them ourselves, other times a friend or acquaintance alerts us about a horse in need of help. When we rescue a horse, we don’t always know if they will end up staying with us long-term. Not all of the horses we help are able to become our riding horses – and that’s ok. Some horses are unable to be ridden again, or their past injuries only allow them to be ridden for short periods. In these cases, after we’ve done as much as we can, we will find another suitable home for them. If they make a successful recovery and are fit for our riding tours, they will usually stay with us as one of our riding horses.

The Plan: Our first step is securing land, which requires a total budget of $250,000-$300,000. Right now, we’re focused on raising a deposit of $150,000 to make this goal a reality. Once we secure the land, we will move forward with building essential facilities, including shelters and eventually a veterinary center.
