Saving Dogs from Yulin Torture
Donation protected
Hi fellow doggie lovers!
I’m Kelly Walker. A short time ago, a post I saw on social media made me aware of the Yulin Dog Meat Festival and the devastating cruelty its participants inflict on innocent canines. The annual “festival”, wrongly assumed to be an ancient Chinese tradition, only dates back to 2009 and results in the brutal slaughter of over 10,000 dogs each year. The victims are subjected to blowtorching, beatings, skinning, and disembowelment; all while alive, yelping, and kicking. These acts are obviously inhumane and unacceptable for any animal to endure, but I was especially affected by these acts being performed on animals just like my two dogs at home.
At first, I wanted to turn away and pretend I never saw that post. I wanted to turn away and pretend I never saw it, or even convince myself that the problem was too big to ever make a difference; until one day I woke up and decided that I could save 10 dogs.. maybe more. And that in itself is worth the effort, as little by little through saving one dog at a time, we are creating awareness to this sickening act with the hope that one day it will all come to an end.
I started looking for ways to have an impact. During my search, I found others who shared my passion and began working in conjunction with them to chip away at this assault on animal life. One such group of folks is the Vanderpump Dog Foundation. This non-profit has been working since 2016 to end the Yulin Festival, and rescue the would-be victims.
That is where my friend Jane and I come in. We have joined forces with Julie, who created the August Fund in Chugiak, which is a shelter set up to recuse retired sled dogs in Alaska.
Jane and I are accepting 10 dogs this October through the Vanderpump Dog Foundation’s foster program. Once received, we will be caring for them until we find them loving homes.
That’s where you come in! The pups will be housed at the August Fund's property in a warm home with a doggie door leading to a large yard so they have room to run and be happy. We will also be taking them out for daily for walks in our state’s epic wilderness. However, we need funds to extend the fencing on the property, as well as to pay for food, beds, collars, and veterinary support. We’ve gotten a great start, but need a little help giving these dogs a second chance at life.
We are so grateful for any little bit of help. Your dollars are welcome and needed, but even the sharing of our mission and message is extremely beneficial.
Thank you again, you are helping us give needing doggies a home, love, and a life worth living.
