Saving Coppers Life

Hi, my name is Marissa and I’m Coppers mom.

Copper is my beautiful, sweet, goofy and loving 2 year old golden retriever. She’s my sock loving, lizard hunting best friend. I can’t imagine my life without her.

Yesterday evening my Coppy took a turn in her health. A once energetic pup turned into someone I didn’t recognize. Although her behaviors had only change for about 2 hours. I knew in my gut something was wrong.

I took her to the emergency vet at 8:00pm on 7/11. She was lethargic, not eating and acting strange. The vet was very reassuring told me she likely had an upset stomach, and sent me home with medication.

I watched her closely to see if that light in her eyes would return. she slept closely with me that night.

Her health took a turn for the worst in the morning. It was a struggle to get her up in the morning. A struggle to get her down the stairs and out the door. If you knew my Coppy, you would know she is always the first one up and out the door. She never passes up her walks.
We went for a walk and I saw her little light return. As soon as we got back inside for food, she showed not interest. She didn’t wait by her food bowl like usual.
I tried to give her her medication with peanut butter, and she wouldn’t take it. Then I knew something was really wrong and this wasn’t an upset stomach.

I took her to the vet, who saw us very quickly. X-rays we’re ordered. I have never been so worried in my life.
The X-rays found that she had a mass the size of her whole abdomen. No one has seen anything like it at that clinic. The vets rush my copper to the specialists. The specialists performed an ultrasound and more labs. She explained to me that they found what the mass was, it was her left kidney.
She has massive hydronephrosis with pyelonephritis.

We don’t know how she got it or how long she’s been in pain. Her change in mood was so sudden and unexpected.

She’s going to stay at the hospital until the surgeon can do her surgery tomorrow morning. And will remain in the hospital for a few days.
doctors are optimistic for a full recovery.

I am in shock that my baby has to go through this. I pray that she makes a good recovery and comes home to me. I miss her. It’s only been a few hours but I miss her and her presence so much.

I’ve never done one of these gofundme. But I’ve hit my lowest today... I’ve drained what I have to save her and I’m hoping it does. If you have it in your heart to donate, thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart. You have no idea how much this means to me.

thank you,
marissa
