On July 30th, 2020, our family adopted a stray 5 month old potcake from the Bahamas. We named her Paru which means graceful flow of water. She is so full of love and affection from the day we met her. Unbeknownst to anyone, the vet says she had a severe traumatic experience as a puppy, which led to her having the worst hip dysplasia that our vet (and other vets) have ever seen.


Hiding all her pain and discomfort, Paru will run and jump and play like any other pup. She still has a stray dog mentality; needing to show strength and capabilities so she can survive. She just wants to be part of everything around her and we have decided the only option is to give her the chance.


At only 11 months old, she is a fighter and deserves a long and healthy life. 


She needs 3 surgeries; 2 for her hips and 1 vulvoplasty spanning over the next 6 months with 4 to 6 weeks recovery per surgery. Here are the Xray that show how terribly in shape she is. 

We have sent the xrays around for multiple opinions and we have now received the Orthopedic surgeon's opinion and her final quote. We will keep updating this page with new information and changes in costs and our decisions. If we don't do the total hip replacement surgeries, she has a high chance of luxation (dislocation of femur from hip) and she can no longer get the surgeries. Therefore we are having the surgeries done ASAP in order for her to live a long and happy life.

The surgeon has quoted the following for the cost for diagnosis, hospitalization, pain management, surgery, and post-operative care to be $8,930 to $9,420 per hip (2) and $3,130 to $3,640 for her Episioplasty/ Vulvoplasty surgery. Our total, if we take the higher end of the quote, is $22,400.
