Help Bring Aslan Home - From the Streets of Turkey to a Safe Life in the UK
Hi, I'm Helen, and during a recent trip to Turkey, my daughter and I met a dog who completely stole our hearts.
We have named him Aslan, which is Turkish for “Lion” - because he is brave and a warrior! He is a beautiful, gentle soul, just eight months old.
The very first time we saw him, he
was lying in a gutter. He looked so lost, fragile, and out of place. And yet, when we approached him, he greeted us with a wagging tail and the sweetest, most trusting eyes.
Being only young, he wasn't road or streetwise. He had so many near misses with cars, and with the help of Animal Aid, we managed to take him off the streets just in time - just before Bayram, a major Turkish festival when the roads become manic. We're certain he wouldn't have survived if we hadn't acted when we did.
Aslan isn't tough-he's loving, gentle, and full of joy. Every time we saw him, he lit up when he saw us. It was clear that he doesn't belong on the streets. He belongs in a home, safe and loved.
But life on the streets in Turkey is not just hard-it's dangerous, and now, tragically, it's deadly.
The Turkish government has begun a mass roundup of stray dogs as part of a nationwide cull. Some are killed outright. Others are sent to overcrowded municipal shelters-commonly known as "death camps" - where thousands of dogs are crammed together without regular food, clean water, or medical care. Most are left to slowly die from starvation, dehydration, or disease. It's a devastating crisis happening every day.
Aslan had no chance of surviving that system.
Thankfully, the incredible team at Animal Aid stepped in just in time. They rescued him from the streets, and he's now safe and beginning his vet checks. The next step is to bring him home to the UK, where he can finally have the life he deserves.
What We're Raising Funds For :
The total cost to bring a dog from Turkey to the UK can range between £2,000 and £2,500.
We are hoping to raise £1,000, which will help go towards:
- Veterinary care: vaccinations, blood tests, and microchipping
- Travel documents and pet passport
- Airline-approved crate and flight costs
- Transport to the airport and UK arrival fees
This goal will cover Aslan's relocation / journey costs. Anything we raise beyond that will go directly toAnimal Aid to help them to continue their rescue work.
More Lives to Save!!
Animal Aid is also hoping to send three more rescued dogs on the same flight as Aslan to loving homes in the UK. With your help, this fundraiser could save not just one life, but four.
Animal Aid is working tirelessly on the ground in Turkey, rescuing, feeding, and sheltering as many animals as they can from the streets-and from the deadly government roundups. They are a lifeline
to the voiceless, and they need all the support they can get.
Myself and my daughter are also taking part in a Sponsored Walk!
To help raise the funds, my daughter (who's just turned seven!) and I will be doing a 7.5-mile sponsored walk together. It's a big challenge-especially for her little legs - but we're doing it for Aslan, and for all the animals who deserve a second chance at life.
Every step we take will be for them. And every donation-no matter the size-will help us get one step closer to bringing Aslan home and supporting this urgent mission.
Whether you can give a little, a lot, or just help by sharing, thank you.
Let's bring Aslan home. Let's save more lives. Let's show them that love wins.
with all our gratitude
