Saving Amazing Grace

Hi I’m asking for your help today to raise money for veterinary expenses that saved an 11 week old puppy. I caught wind of the pup’s situation and it touched my heart. I simply couldn’t let this puppy die a miserable death. The puppy caught a deadly virus, called Parvo, without treatment the mortality rate is 97%. Even with the treatment many don’t survive. Unfortunately, the previous owner of the puppy did not have the means to treat this horrific virus and surrendered the pup to Toronto Animal Services. When I heard of the situation, I jumped into action and took the puppy, who we will call Grace, to a 24 hour emergency clinic for treatment. Grace remained in the emergency clinic for 10 days in isolation. You see, Parvo is extremely contagious to non vaccinated dogs. Parvo virus can not only be passed on through dog to dog contact but it also clings to soft surfaces enabling the transmission of this deadly virus on clothes and blankets for up to 3 months. So Grace had to stay on her own in a steel cage with no comforts such as blankets or toys to cuddle with, only disposable pee pads to lay on; heartbreaking. The staff and the doctors worked tirelessly to try to save this young soul. Grace required around the clock care which included: IV fluid treatments, multiple medications, feeding tubes, plasma transfusions, and a lot of hope. It was touch and go many days. Despite having a feeding tube, the challenge was the absorption of nutrients. Parvo does a number on the lining of the stomach and the intestines so pups loose the ability to absorb any nutrients that’s put in their stomach. Around the 7th day, a corner was turned, Grace’s blood tests were showing an uphill trend; there was hope she might make it. Grace also started to eat a little on her own, but the absorption of the food was still a challenge. Clearly, this little soul is a fighter. After everything the virus put Grace through as well as being isolated at a pivotal time in her young life, she found the strength and pulled through; Grace survived. Amazing! Once released from hospital, I brought her home to heal, physically and emotionally from the traumatic start of her life only a few days away from her dog family. Grace went into hospital weighing 2.7 kg and came home a mere 1.7 kg; literally skin and bones. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to watch Grace thrive and grow into a healthy, happy dog; as my dad would say she’s on the right side of the grass. All the fabulous care at the veterinary hospital comes with an enormous bill, thank goodness for credit cards. I now have the job of paying this off and this is why I’m humbly asking for your help. Understandably, financial situations are strained these days, if you feel you can contribute, any amount will help, Grace and I will be forever grateful. Passing this link on to anyone you may know would also be a huge help. Thank you for your kindness and support towards Amazing Grace, Nancy.
