Cari Amici,

 

la settimana scorsa Selvaggia ha fatto l’importante scelta di acquistare con tutti i suoi risparmi Amarcord de Mores, un cavallo pronto, come da protocollo, a gareggiare alle varie corse propedeutiche al Palio di Siena. Una scelta ambiziosa per via dell’ingente spesa, ma soprattuto coraggiosa per via dei pericoli e del durissimo allenamento che la attendono. Tuttavia, si tratta anche del primo passo verso la realizzazione di un sogno che si spera possa vederla quale prima donna del nostro secolo a correre, e magari anche vincere, il Palio di Siena. Nei mesi scorsi sono rimasto profondamente colpito dall’impegno e dalla serietà con cui Selvaggia si è preparata a fare questa scelta. Per non parlare dell’entusiasmo e della luce che hanno emanato i suoi occhi nelle ultime settimane in vista della formalizzazione dell’acquisto e dell’inizio di quest’avventura e impresa. Ancora più rincuorante è stato sentire le parole di uno storico campione del Palio, il quale ha dato sua completa disponibilità nell’aiutarla come suo allenatore in questa avventura poiché convinto che Selvaggia abbia la stoffa per provarci.

 

Lunedì Amarcord è finalmente arrivato al Calcione, e sfortuna maledetta vuole che durante la notte si sia lacerato di netto il tendine dell’anteriore destro. Un’infortunio del genere significa la possibilità di perdere il cavallo, o nella miglior ipotesi, salvarlo per non poter più gareggiare. Adesso si trova in degenza nella clinica veterinaria di Perugia, dopo un difficile intervento chirurgico. Purtroppo non si può fare altro che sperare che ce la faccia.

 

Ho visto questo sogno infrangersi, e mai ho assistito ad una Selvaggia così distrutta e delusa. Da solo mi trovo inerme (l’hospitality di questi tempi non va proprio per la maggiore) e sono quindi a chiedervi di aiutarmi a supportarla con una donazione per provare a salvare Amarcord, o in alternativa, avere il denaro a sufficienza per prendere un’altro cavallo. Tutti noi abbiamo goduto della generosità di Selvaggia in questo anno e mezzo di pandemia, vivendo la meraviglia del Calcione e della fornace. Vi chiedo quindi il vostro supporto per far si che possa avere un’ulteriore possibilità nel perseguimento di questo suo sogno ed essere possibilmente anche voi stessi crowd-funders della prima fantina del Palio!

Dear Friends,

 

Last week Selvaggia made the important decision to use up all her savings in order to acquire Amarcord de Mores, a horse with which she hoped to compete in the various races that hopefully will lead to the Palio of Siena. An ambitious decision not only because of the huge cost, but above all a courageous one seeing the dangers and the very hard training that await her. However, it is also the beginning of the realization of a dream, which hopefully will enable her to be the first woman of this century to run, and maybe, who knows to also win the Palio di Siena.

 

Over the last few months I have been moved by the commitment and rigour she he has put behind the preparation which ultimately lead to the formalisation of this acquisition. I was also touched to see the enthusiasm and the light in her eyes when she talks about this adventure. Of particular note is the fact that one of the historic champions of the Palio has shown faith in her and agreed to coach her, convinced that she has what it takes to try.

 

On monday Amarcord finally arrived at Calcione but bad luck would have it that during the night the tendon of the horse’s right front leg was torn apart. This kind of injury means that there is a strong possibility the horse won’t survive from the aftermaths of the operation or if he does he will no longer be able to compete. He is now in a specialised clinic in Perugia recovering from the long and complicated surgery.

 

I saw Selvaggia’s dream torn apart and I’ve never witnessed her so destroyed and disappointed. Alone I find myself helpless (hospitality these days isn't really flourishing ), so I am therefore asking if you could help with a donation to try to save Amarcord, or alternatively to contribute towards the acquisition of another horse.

 

We have all enjoyed her generosity in this year and a half of pandemic, experiencing the wonders of both Calcione and the Fornace and I therefore ask for your support to ensure that he she is given another shot to pursue her dream. Who knows you might end up crowd-funding the first female rider of the Palio!
