I am Dr. Youshay Jawad, a postdoctoral research fellow with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto, Canada. I completed my MD at King Edward Medical University Lahore, Pakistan.
Dr. Aftab Haider was my class fellow and dearest friend during all those years in medical school. He has been diagnosed with aplastic anemia recently (a condition where your body stops making all kinds of blood cells making one prone to bleeding, infections, cachexia and eventual death). Had he been in any developed country, this would have meant a good prognosis, but unfortunately, he was born in Pakistan, where no centralized bone marrow transplant centers exist. This expensive procedure has to be run using the healthcare resources of multiple European countries, even though the final transplant can be done in Pakistan. The cost comes up to almost one hundred thousand Canadian dollars. Not forget that the Pakistani economy is already on the brink of collapse! He lost his father during the pandemic and happened to be the only support of his mother. Please help us raise money for his bone marrow transplant, potentially curative for this condition. He is young, hardworking, and has a long career as a medical doctor. Let's give this young man another chance for life!
