Saving Spokane’s Pets

Low cost spay and neuter has become scarce in Spokane and the Greater Spokane area. Rescues depend on these services to continue their work. POSNA, Murci’s Mission, Double J Ranch, Higher Ground Animal Sanctuary, Washington Basset Rescue, Northeast Washington Humane Society and many more area rescues depend on it to continue rescuing animals.
Our community and it’s animals depend on it!

Area rescues began the discussion for the need long before Spokanimal’s Clinic closed and SCRAPS voucher program was discontinued due to lack of licensing.

Dr Talaga is well known and respected for the amazing work and experience she has brought to shelter medicine and spay/neuter clinics in our area. She has done a great deal of foot work and devised a business plan to serve shelters, rescues, and outlying counties.

Together we met and talked about the challenge we all face with this need. We whole heartedly support this endeavor and hope the community will support the purchase of a mobile spay and neuter van to launch NE Washington Spay Neuter Alliance, NEWSN Alliance.
*URGENT*
The Mobile Clinic pictured comes with ALL kinds of extras and is being held until Saturday!!!
It is a resale and $43k less than a new one which would be a 3 month wait as well.
Please help our area pets!
Please Give!
They DEPEND on us!

From the Doc... – Dr. Laura Talaga, DVM

Mobile Spay/Neuter Veterinary Clinic serving Spokane and outlying rural communities.

Northeast Washington is a where options for low-cost spay/neuter is limited. The Spokane community has been fighting the battle of pet overpopulation for many years and absolutely we have made headway! However, with the SCRAPS spay/neuter voucher program now gone and the SpokAnimal Clinic now closed, options are more limited than ever before.
Rescues and Shelters depend on low cost veterinary services in order to save as many animals as possible and make every donated dollar stretch as far as possible. Low income families need low cost clinics to provide affordable vaccinations, spay/neuter, worming and microchipping for their beloved furry family member. Pet Dentals are essential to the health, wellbeing and longevity of your animal companion’s life. Low cost dentals will also be a part of this program serving Spokane and the Greater Spokane area.
Moving forward with a very specific mission and service it is important to understand why clinics are closing and the voucher program has become obsolete. Why are these programs and clinics failing? Poor management and miss-appropriation of funds is a very big factor. It is a simple fact that low cost services provide very little margin of profit, there is absolutely no room for error. Any poor decisions can easily become detrimental to the long term viability of the program. Scraps Voucher program was supported thru the funds available for licensing fees. We have a huge failure in our communities sense of obligation and priority to license every pet.
How do I plan to solve this? Low overhead and a business model that has been proven to work across the country. With a mobile spay/neuter clinic we will be focusing on sustainability and longevity of the program, because only then will we finally see our much deserved results, not only in the Spokane Community but also the outlying rural communities that need this opportunity the most.
My heart and soul is dedicated to being part of the solution for both rescues AND public clients. Spokane is a beautiful place to call home, but we STILL have significant pet overpopulation. With all of the amazing progress we have all worked so hard for, it would be such a shame to lose ground in the constant battle of pet overpopulation. The end is in sight but not for long.
I need your help! Every day we are not doing surgeries is one more day the clock is ticking against us. With kitten season upon us we don’t have a moment to lose. Overall start-up goal is $85,000 and with small private investors already lined up we are making real progress. But the community needs to step up and have a voice. Pet Overpopulation is a Community Problem that needs Community Effort to overcome. Now is always the time to do the right thing and support programs that will provide a much needed resource in the community.
