In 2008, Supreme Understanding and Mecca Wise launched a publishing company that changed the world with its revolutionary curriculum, full of solutions to the urban community's struggles. Ten years later, these guides continue to save lives around the world. To bring together the millions of students influenced by knowledge of self and its applications, Supreme began converting his old home into a school for social change. This is the same space where Supreme and others launched a community youth outreach in 2001 and began transforming that "hood" for the better.
Supreme, never the one to profiteer off the people, avoided asking for any outside funding for this school. By bootstrapping and doing much of the work himself, the home was almost ready to serve as a full time school, with a curriculum that already had proven itself in the real world!
Plus the neighborhood was no longer a hood!
Needless to say, as gentrification sweeps through the neighborhood, people with money are land-grabbing by any means.
So what happened? First, an act of sabotage. A major leak occurred when the home was vacant, right before its scheduled opening. Over $18,000 worth of damage occurred. Meanwhile, lenders who had promised Supreme six months of deferred mortgage payments were now demanding payment in FULL, within 30 days, or the building would go into foreclosure! No option to settle, no payment plans, nothing! The only other offer than to pay the $7,775 in full? To allow a short sale of the house, for less than the mortgage I owe! Now think! Why would a bank do this? Because people want this house. They want this building. Outsiders want to control this neighborhood because we made it safe and beautiful. And unfortunately, if we can't raise that amount, the future of this beautiful school is in danger! The goals were to teach adults all the things we've missed - business development, mental health, relationship science, you name it - all so we can build a successful future wherever we are. The school, when launched, will have an online portal so students can attend from anywhere. But first we've gotta save the place where we'll teach classes and begin the first of our community gardens! If you can help, you'll be enrolled for free as soon as we launch!
