The Samohi is Santa Monica High School's (Samohi) newspaper. We publish a paper every two weeks and reach about 3,200 students across Samohi and the larger Santa Monica community. The award-winning paper is produced almost entirely by students under the daily supervision our adviser, English teacher Kathleen Faas
The staff is made up of journalism students from grades 10 through 12, all of whom have been recommended by teachers.
By being part of The Samohi team, we develop many of the skills necessary to succeed in the field of journalism, including news writing, interviewing, editing, photography and working to better our community.
Unfortunately, the paper has fallen on hard times. We no longer have enough money to publish in color or as frequently as we would like. Aside from the salary of our Advisor, we receive no money from the School District.
Publishing a newspaper at Samo isn’t just about the newspaper itself, or a journalism class—it offers students (and readers) an opportunity to stay connected, to build community, and to be part of something larger than oneself.
We are asking for donations to help us stay afloat, and continue our mission by bringing news to the Samohi community. No matter the amount, any donation will help us keep the Samo community connected. THANK YOU for supporting the Samohi, as well as our greater Santa Monica community, with your donation. Our appreciation goes beyond words.
