Hello, and thanks for reading about my cause.

In late October I got the call that everyone dreads: my father had taken a terrible fall and probably was not going to make it. It’s been a long haul since then, but he’s showing improvement. Unfortunately he’s legally been deemed incapacitated for life.

He is a be-bop jazz cat from the 50’s 60’s & 70’s and his affairs are the kind of mess it wouldn’t be right to say. He and I were estranged for many years with my not being able to reach him and he’s gotten himself into some vulnerable elder abusive situations, which i’ve tried to address from NY. However, I’ve rapidly become increasingly concerned about those making decisions regarding his long term care and wellbeing. He’s in california and I am his only family. I want to do whatever I can to ensure he’s in a proper long term care facility, but I currently don’t have his medical directive, which leaves me powerless even as his only child and relative.

I was chipping away at a sum to make my way out there eventually and cover my expenses back home in case his condition requires me to stay awhile, but at this point it’s become clear I need to travel asap to hire some onsite professionals to help me safeguard what’s left of his belongings and conserve his person as well. I’m well beyond the breakers with all of this.

below is a description of some of the costs, in addition to hiring a lawyer to facilitate the whole thing.

•The petitioner must pay:
1) filing fees to file the petition with the Probate Court;
2) the court investigator costs;
3) the Probate Court's fee to issue the Letters of Conservatorship;
4) the Probate Court's fee for the evaluation of the Conservatee's financial assets.
•If a professional Conservator must be hired on behalf of the Conservatee, he or she will have hourly fees for time spent on behalf of the Conservatee. •If the petitioner uses an Attorney to process the petition, the Attorney fees may be hourly or by lump sum.

a breakdown of my needs is as follows:

•flight and transport $575
•lodging $450-700
•court filing fee $465
•retainer $1000
If you’re able to donate to the fund thank you, but if you can’t please know the concern is felt and appreciated. Support will come. I feel strong. Thanks for yours, from both of us.
