For those of you that don't know, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer 16 years ago. She underwent a mastectomy and chemotherapy to aggressively treat her cancer. After being cancer free for 15 years, one of the chemotherapy drugs she took 15 years prior, destroyed her bone marrow. This meant she was extremely anemic and could not produce life saving blood cells. Her doctors told her she would develop leukemia and probably die within 1 - 2 years if she did not undergo a bone marrow transplant.
She had a bone marrow transplant in June 2016 and was doing well until a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, she has developed some very serious complications: severe inflammation in her stomach, ulcers in her mouth and eyes- making it difficult for her to see and eat. She has lost almost 80 pounds and is very weak.
She has exhausted her short term and long term disability and is now on social security. Her insurance premium is over $600 a month and her medical expenses are extremely high. She is taking over 30 medications a day. My mom has barely scraped by this year - thanks in part to a grant/donation from the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society. This donation ends this month. Her expenses will increase next year as her income decreases.
In January she will have a new deductible to meet and co-pays on a myriad of medications, clinic visits, treatments & transfusions. My mom is single and has no other financial support. She has already taken out money from her 401K (necessitating penalties) to pay for some of her bills/expenses. Making matters worse, she just found out that she has to move out of the house that she has been renting for over 18 years, by this January 15th. She will need financial assistance for moving and storing her furniture and other belongings. Manpower, moving supplies, trucks and donated storage would be greatly appreciated.
Your monetary donations would go toward paying medical expenses…this could help save her life. She has been such an amazing friend to so many, please help spread the word.
