-- Help Us Finish Our Stargate Fan Film and Build What Comes Next --
Hello, I’m Samuel Cockings, creator of Trek Shorts and, for most of my life, a Stargate fan.
Right now, my team and I are working on one of the most ambitious fan projects we have ever attempted: a Stargate viral #SaveStargate short film designed not only to celebrate the franchise, but to remind people just how much passion still exists for this universe.
We have almost completed principal photography, with various Trek Shorts cast members returning. We have custom-built a slew of new 3D assets for the project, utilised existing work-in-progress assets, and had various new and very talented Stargate fans provide us with additional assets for this project.
Hundreds of hours have already been spent on the CGI and visual effects side of things to ensure we have an impressive level of scale and scope, bringing the Stargate universe back in a big way and making this something very special and worth sharing.
That is the only way we can get it to go viral and show Amazon that fans want more Stargate!
The first part of what we are asking for through this GoFundMe is the remaining funding needed to finish the viral fan film at the scale and quality we believe it deserves.
Beyond that smaller goal, it is all about the web series we want to create — with your help!
---- Why We’re Doing This ----
Stargate has been part of my life for decades. I was there when Daniel died… each time.
I vividly remember the first moments of Atlantis capturing me at 11, or when I shed a tear at 18 for the end of Stargate Universe.
The show, the franchise, and those who made it have all meant so much to me, and I want to do what only I and my team can do to try and #SaveStargate.
Trek Shorts has spent years creating fan films on extremely limited budgets. We know how to stretch every pound, use what we already have, build what we need, and bring together passionate and dedicated people to make stories that people actually want to watch.
After the cancellation of Martin Gero’s new Stargate project, I knew I had to react and, if the fans would support it, that I had to go ahead and create a fan film — and hopefully a fan web series — to support the fandom and show Amazon that we want more original-timeline Stargate.
I want our films to be lightning rods in the #SaveStargate campaign and positive new content for fans across the world to watch.
---- What Your Support Will Fund ----
Our minimum funding goal allows us to complete and release the film currently in production, for which we were able to raise the first 50% of the budget earlier this year.
With this first funding goal, we aim to finish the viral #SaveStargate film in November.
But the ambition goes much further.
If enough fans support us directly here on GoFundMe, we want to use the rest of 2026 to lay the foundations for a first-of-its-kind fan-made web series to release in 2027.
This campaign reaching its goals would mean:
- More original Stargate short films
- More iconic digital locations and sets created from all three shows and three movies
- Screen-quality costumes and props
- More extensive visual effects
- “Off-world” sequences, including location work
- Stories ranging across SG-1, Atlantis, and Universe
- A growing library of reusable sets, costumes, and digital assets
- Open casting opportunities for Stargate fans
This is still fan filmmaking — not even 1% of the catering budget of an episode of streaming television — but we will do our utmost to respect MGM, Amazon, and the legacy of Stargate, as well as the companies and creatives who have made these iconic stories for fans.
---- Authentic Stargate History ----
One of the things that makes this project particularly exciting is the material we already have access to.
My amazing father has collected Stargate props and costumes for nearly 20 years, including dozens of original screen-used pieces from the franchise — from tiny props to full costumes, iconic one-off hero pieces to background extra costumes.
That means some of the things appearing in these films will not simply be recreations. They were actually there on set, making them as authentic as it is possible to get.
We will even tailor certain stories around seeing some of these screen-used elements return to the screen.
We are also working with incredibly talented costume makers who are amazingly detailed artists, prop makers with decades of experience, ultra-talented 3D modelers, and visual effects artists to recreate elements of Stargate with as much accuracy as possible.
We are aiming for the best, which is why we need the budget now, so we can secure the costumes and props and be ready to shoot in early 2027.
---- Emma Thorne! ----
The amazing Emma Thorne has signed on to our potential web series to play a new Ancient character and has already filmed a test mini-short wearing an original screen-used costume from the Stargate Atlantis episode “Aurora.”
You can’t get much more authentic than that.
---- Going Back Through the Gate ----
Without giving away spoilers — as we want you to experience this for the first time on screen — our viral short is the first of its kind: a true combination of all three Stargate shows, all in one story.
There are complicated visual effects sequences, extensive digital locations from across the franchise, and more than a few surprises!
Massive attention to detail has been put into these sets to make them feel as much like a “window” back into the show we all love as we possibly can.
---- This Is Bigger Than One Film ----
This campaign starts with one film.
But what happens afterwards depends on the fan response.
If the Stargate community wants to see us produce more, we want to build towards a first “season”, comprising a planned 10 episodes with stories from across the Stargate franchise.
We have the team, we have unique props and costumes, and we know how to secure the much-needed additional props and costumes required to create such a series for the fans.
All we need now is the budget.
The idea of being able to create and release Stargate short films throughout 2027 is incredibly exciting.
We want to do it, but we need your help.
---- Why Now? ----
There is momentum around Stargate again.
Fans are talking, and the loss of Martin’s show has only shown how loud our voice is and how much we want more Stargate.
We want to strike while that excitement is there and create something that fans can share far beyond our existing Star Trek audience.
If a fan-made Stargate film reaches tens of thousands of viewers or more, that becomes another metric for Amazon and another way to show just how much enthusiasm still exists for this franchise.
---- If You Want More Stargate, Help Us Make It ----
The next set of goals will help us build the elements we need for a web series, and if we reach our full goal, we can plan to shoot the first part of the web series, with another fundraiser to cover the rest of the series.
We want to start shooting in January/February 2027, but we need to get the costumes and props started now, in early/mid October 2026.
Whether you can donate £5, £50, or simply share this campaign with another Stargate fan, you are helping us prove that there is still a passionate audience waiting to step through the gate.
We are putting the work in.
Now we need the Stargate community behind us.
Thank you to everyone who has supported Trek Shorts, everyone who has already helped with this production, and every Stargate fan who has kept their love for this universe alive.
If you love Stargate and want to see more of it, please support the campaign and share it with somebody who feels the same way.
Thank you!
