Animals surprise and delight—they open our hearts and touch that part of ourselves that people can’t.
Meet Squirt.
Squirt is one such animal. She’s a sheep, but no ordinary sheep. This ewe loves people! She’s curious, she’s affectionate—she is connected. She’s really just a fluffy attention hog who comes when she’s called, gives kisses, and loves to play with her human and animal friends.
So why are we raising money? Squirt is being raised for meat as part of a Future Farmers of America (FFA) project. She goes to market in early June and we’d like to buy her for Wildlife Associates where she can be a teacher—helping kids gain trust, respect, and confidence through Wildlife Associates’ at-risk youth programs.
What is Wildlife Associates?
Founded in 1980 by renowned environmental educator Steve Karlin, Wildlife Associates is the product of two things—his long study of the evolution of human learning, and a strong belief that humans need to better their relationship with the living world.
The focus of Wildlife Associates' educational programs is to empower and awaken our compassion for living things and to develop a new knowledge base, leaving the next generation with the motivation to act responsibly toward the earth. Having animals—alive and breathing—in front of us translates this message into teachable moments.
How Will the Money Be Used?
These funds will be used to win Squirt at auction, transport her back from the fair, and supply her first year of feed and bedding. Any additional funds raised will be donated to Wildlife Associates.
Together, we can give Squirt a long life, connecting her with potentially thousands of kids who will benefit from interacting with this exceptionally affectionate and connected sheep.
