Wichita State's athletic leadership, most specifically athletic director Darron Boatright, have fallen behind and become complacent in the ever changing atmosphere of college athletics.
- Wichita State has not established any kind of NIL assistance or collective for its student athletes. Both of the other D1 schools in Kansas have made this a priority. That falls squarely on Mr. Boatright.
- During the COVID pandemic, when coaches and athletic staff were having their pay cut, Mr. Boatright recieved a 37% raise which was then covered up until local reporter Taylor Eldridge reported on it earlier this year.
- Wichita State's basketball facilities are falling behind the national expectation, as evidenced by lifelong Shocker coach Kerry Rosenboom leaving the program despite wishing to retire as a Shocker. Mr. Boatright should be leading fundraisers and drives to improve facilities, and yet there has been no initiative.
- Mr. Boatright has not shown an ability to negotiate effective contracts or conduct national coaching searches.
- Wichita State's athletic budget report shows a drastic revenue loss compared to previous years, including drop of fan support and donations. This is not sustainable long term.
- We are a group of Shocker fans looking to draw attention to Mr. Boatright and the athletic departments recent failures and lack of transparency. Many WSU fans are cancelling tickets, ceasing donations, and a general sense of apathy has formed in the fan base. It is time for a change, and university leadership has been content with mediocrity.
This fundraiser will go to support marketing efforts such as billboards, online presence, etc. to support making a change in Shocker athletics and bringing these issues to the public, as well as other support to revitalizing the once successful Wichita State Athletic program.
