The Journey Begins
Shortly after washing ashore in Provincetown, after leaving New York City, I asked the Universe for my big success. The response came loud and clear:

The cupcakes you made for the kids,
The name is ScottCakes,
They're only pink.
?
(I was hoping for a tv show)

And so in July of 2009, I embarked on an exciting adventure on Commercial Street and started selling my golden vanilla cupcakes topped with real buttercream frosting from a card table in front of what is now Kiehl’s. I’ve been doing it ever since, hoping to spread joy and unity amongst our growing community of ScottCakers.

After two seasons on the street, I got a physical location and since May of 2011 ScottCakes’ pink basement storefront at 353 Commercial Street has welcomed tens of thousands of friendly faces - locals and tourists alike. The pink flag flying above has been a symbol of happiness and creativity [and sugar and butter] for all.

From this corner I’ve watched children grow into young adults, forged friendships with returning visitors who make ScottCakes part of their annual pilgrimage to Provincetown, and been honored to be part of countless art openings, weddings, charity events, and celebrations.

Against the Clock
Unexpectedly, my friend Jim McGowan, the ScottCakes property owner, recently passed away. ScottCakes the storefront exists because of Jim. Back in 2011 he wanted me as a tenant and made it so ScottCakes could have a home. He bought the space decades ago and ScottCakes has essentially been covering the taxes and condo fees for the past 12 years. His estate is now selling the space and there is an offer on the table to buy it. There is a glimmer of hope however.

ScottCakes has been given the first right of refusal to purchase the condo.

But time isn't on our side, as Provincetown's property rates and rents soar, cupcakes alone don’t generate enough revenue to support this immediate purchase.

YOUR support is critical for acquiring this storefront to keep those pink boxes walking up and down Commercial Street. My aim is to raise the full asking price in order to directly purchase the space outright.

Unless we buy the ScottCakes spot, I’ll have to close and I don't know what will happen to ScottCakes.

Forge Tomorrow's Sweetness
ScottCakes has just finished its 15th season and we have been around that long because of YOU.
I’m so grateful for this and want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
It really is because of YOU.

YOU have kept coming
YOU have told friends and relatives that they must go to ScottCakes
YOU have brought me your virgins

And now I am asking YOU to:

  • Safeguard ScottCakes’ lasting presence (I figure I’ve got another 20 or 25 decent years left in me).
  • Put ScottCakes in the same realm as the Lobster Pot, Art’s Dune Tours, Spiritus Pizza, Womencrafts, and other local home grown businesses that are a big part of what makes Provincetown Provincetown.
  • Champion the unique spirit of local, independent Provincetown business.
  • Enable us to continue spreading Ptown love, one cupcake at a time!

Let’s do this
