Several years ago I was diagnosed with a rare cornea condition called Keratoconus. This means that my corneas are thinning and becoming irregularly shaped.
The best way to describe it is to imagine a basketball. When a basketball gets really scuffed on one side, the pressure from inside the ball causes a bulge and then it doesn't bounce right. Essentially that's going on with my corneas — except instead of not bouncing right, it's impacting my vision.
Today, the recommended treatment for Keratoconus is a procedure called a corneal cross-linking which will strengthen my corneas to prevent further thinning. This will also prevent me from needing a corneal transplant in the future. And on Sept. 4, I will have the procedure done on my right eye.
Thankfully my health insurance has determined that having functioning eyeballs is "medically necessary" and will cover a portion procedure costs, but with a $4,000 price tag and a minimum week-long recovery time, I will still need to pay for what remains. And as the world will continue to go on, I will also need to raise enough money to cover regular living expenses while I will be absent from work.
It would mean the absolute world to me if you could help me pay for the corneal cross-linking procedure, and rent. If you don't have any spare dollars in your PayPal account, just sharing this fundraiser with someone you know would also be immensely helpful <3
