We reached our goal!!

Together, we can save as many prairie dogs and burrows as possible in 2018! With your support, we can ensure that prairie dogs have a home on the prairie. Please donate today, and help us be the difference to prairie dogs and their associates!

Here are our amazing field projects for 2018!

Our season will kick off by heading to Southern Plains Land Trust in southeastern CO, where we will help protect more than 100 acres from sylvatic plague. This is an important part of our work because this disease poses a real risk to the long-term survival of prairie dogs as a species.

After spending some time helping Colorado prairie dogs, we will continue to our fourth year at American Prairie Reserve in MT, where we will enhance at least 700 acres of prairie dog habitat.

We will then move approximately 200 prairie dogs in our second year of repatriating from conflict areas  to Northern Cheyenne tribal lands in southeastern MT.

Prairie dogs thriving on our research site! We are really excited to work on this research in collaboration with the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe.

This next project has it all and we need funding to cover each part!

We will be working on a collaborative relocation effort with the Lower Brule Tribe in South Dakota. Hundreds of prairie dogs in an unwanted area in central South Dakota will be relocated to protected Lower Brule Sioux Tribal land.

We are also excited to continue a research project we started on the Lower Brule that aims to understand prairie dog relocation dynamics. We will be able to share the results from this study with municipalities and other stakeholders looking to start or continue to include relocation into their management strategies. A win-win for prairie dogs and their associates!

This project is so well rounded because it contains so many essential aspects for the prairie dogs, including:

1. Saves hundreds of prairie dogs
2. Creates additional protected habitat for prairie dogs, bison, ferrets and their associates
3. Data collection that shows that relocation works
4. Get footage of our work in order to share our efforts

All of this amazing work is not possible without support from wildlife advocates like you! We need help funding our efforts in order to make all these much needed projects possible. This is where you come in. By donating any amount that you are able ($1, $25, $100, and beyond), you help to ensure that prairie dogs are on the prairie for generations to come!

Thank you from all of us at the Prairie Dog Coalition and The HSUS!
