#SavePirate - Help with surgery

Donation protected
My amazing one-eyed dog Pirate  needs surgery. She hasn't needed any kind of surgery since I first rescued her 7 years ago (when she had some cracked teeth), so to say that this makes me nervous is an understatement.

This incredibly happy little dog has a mammary tumor, which seems to be the result of her previous owner breeding her. Thing I learned in the past week: Spaying a dog before she ever goes into heat is a great way to prevent these kinds of tumors. Pirate's risk was apparently higher because she likely went through heat more than once to make puppies. I've always disliked the stranger who unceremoniously dumped this little sweetheart at the pound when she was still lactating, but I haven't felt angry with them until now.

At 10 years old, I believe Pirate  has years of life and love ahead of her. She bounds up the stairs when it's time for dinner (or even when it's not, since she's a big believer in extra meals), throws her toys around to show how tough she is, and is always eager to jump into a cuddle. If it wasn't for noticing the lump, I wouldn't have known something was wrong with her. I'm sure a lot of you know just how much love she offers, as I consider many of you to be her extended family.

If it weren't for another very recent financial need, I'd just be trying to figure this out on my own. Unfortunately, I'm in a bit of a bind. So, I'm doing this gofundme because the $4000 I'm going to need for her isn't exactly feasible right now. She's already been through a bunch of tests, and now she needs surgery to remove the tumor as well as x-rays, antibiotics, and blood work.

If Pirate has brought some joy to your life AND you have the means AND you feel like donating, I can't tell you how appreciative we'd both be. (Well, how appreciative *I'll* be. Pirate doesn't like the vet's office so it's probably better if she doesn't know you had anything to do with her going there. I'll take the blame on that one.) If you can't or don't wish to donate money, we also equally appreciate good thoughts (and bacon-flavored treats).

There is a very good chance that she'll be ok after dealing with this, and she's her happy, loving, ridiculous, flamboyant normal self right now — if her quality of life deteriorates, that'll be a very different situation. But for now, I have a clear path for making her healthy. So thanks for reading, and thanks for sending good thoughts in Pirate's general direction.

And PLEASE SPAY YOUR GIRL DOGS! Dogs that get spayed before their first heat have much better odds at never having this happen to them.
