After seeing the GoFundMe page, Amy and Francis decided to move forward with another plasma transfusion last night and this third try made all the difference -- Phife is able to maintain his own body temperature without heating pads, is sitting up on his own, responding to commands, and is generally making amazing improvements over the past 24 hours.
The vet will start weaning Phife off the pain meds and liquid IVs as he continues to recover - we will keep this group updated as his progress! THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT! A photo of Phife from today is below:
Phife was attacked by another dog last night and suffered a tremendous amount of trama. He is currently at the emergency vet in Berkeley, undergoing plasma transfusions to help treat severe blood clotting as a result of his injuries. Phife is a 9-year-old pitbull and a complete lover - smart, calm, and extremely charismatic. Phife was rescued by Amy and Francis when he was just a puppy and they are absolutely devastated by last night's attack.
Amy runs a pitbull rescue, Sniffing Snouts, and dedicates her life to fostering and rescuing pitbulls. I first met Amy in June 2017 when I was looking for a foster home for a pitbull puppy and Amy jumped in to help without hesitiation.
Phife's emergency vet bills last night amounted to $7k and the plasma transfusion will cost another $3k. Amy and Francis have depleted their savings thus far to cover Phife's vet bills. We created this GoFundMe page to help alleviate the financial burden of the emergency vet bills on Amy and Francis. 100% of the funds will go to the treating Phife's injuries.
