Save Our Statues

The Save Our Statues twitter campaign now has 13,000 followers and is home to everyone who believes in protecting our history and heritage.

But actions speak louder than words, and we want to run an active campaign including commissioning opinion polls, publishing leaflets and publicity material, and campaigning in local elections.

Nobody is currently speaking for us. Please help us give the silent majority a voice.

The first campaign we are planning concerns the Picton Monument in Carmarthen.

The Picton Monument remembers General Sir Thomas Picton, who gave his life at Waterloo, the battle that gave Europe peace for half a century.

Carmarthenshire County Council is now reviewing this monument in the wake of the Black Lives Matter campaign.

But the Councillors are afraid to properly consult the people they are elected to represent because they know they won't get the answer they want.

If they won't ask the people, we will.

We are going to commission an opinion poll of the people of Carmarthenshire to make their wishes clear. We then challenge the Council to either listen to their voters, or else to go against them.

The poll will be conducted by a reputable polling organisation in order to give an indisputable result. They will have no excuse.

We believe this could be the most effective strategy to fight the wave of Council reviews across the country, but to do it we will need your help. Thank you for giving if you can.
