S.O.S = SAVE OUR SAMMIES!
Donation protected
2018 has been a year for The GrilledCheezGuy biz and the GrilledCheezguy himself.
2018 we donated to both zoos, Yelp, the Fox foundation, and a handful of schools and gay organizations.
2018 we started our FREE grilled cheese day 1/month to help feed the local homeless and street ppl who couldn't enjoy us otherwise.
2018 we become almost a ZERO waste company as we implemented our FREE day and always brought overs to various Oakland encampments.
2018 we were one of the first and only vendors invited to both OTG Presidio AND Fort Mason.
2018 we purchased our first AUTO bread slicer to reduce repetitive motion injury to staff and to increase efficiency!
2018 I continued to pay my staff better than the industry average on all levels and tried to promote a staff to salaried manager.
2018 we continued to support local vendors including our very own Crumble & Whisk who still works in our kitchen alongside us.
2018 we finally opened our SF location after 1 year + of city nightmares and paying rent.
2018 I donated my bone marrow to my father who was diagnosed with AML leukemia and began the good fight with my blood.
2018 I continued to balance the personal life of helping to save my father and support my family while also opening our first shop and growing our catering business by 50%.
2018 we changed our portion and pricing to be more appropriate for portion sizes and to help with our margins.
2018 we make the cover of SF Chronicle food section w/ a recipe!
2018 we continued to only use local produce from Berkeley Bowl, the best bread from Acme bread, and the best butter and cheeses from Petaluma Creamery.
2018 we tried to do a festival again (Treasure Island) and faced HUGE losses with no reprieve and unfair (and varying) % takes from the parent company.
2018 I struggled to keep up with our losses from the restaurant, from my time apart from the business, and from the various technical hurdles and surprises that came up.
2018 we gave gift certificates or catered from the following: SF Zoo, Oakland Zoo, Alameda County Food Bank, Touch-A-Truck, Brewbies at Faction Brewery, Team Fox Foundation, and many many local schools and businesses.
After these 9 years of working so hard to make us work and grow, it would be sad to see us close our doors (shop and van) because of one rough year for me personally as a small business. I know there are a lot of fans, people, events, and others that love us and I hope each and everyone of you can take a moment and have a "meal" with us to help save us.
Bite into that virtual Nacho Guys. Grab that virtual Cheeza. Dip that virtual classic into the Kelly's Jelly and now that even though your stomach might not feel full after that meal, you will have most certainly warmed our hearts and helped us to get through this rough winter we are having.
We not be technically a non-profit but I promise you that our business acts in very much the same manner. I have always put my staff, my customers, my community, and my environment before myself when it comes to all aspects of GrilledCheezGuy.
Many of you out there have had a grilled cheese cheese or topping or chips on us for free. This year, we ask you take a moment and give back to us so that we can keep the doors open and bring you even more next year.
5k allows us to pay our bills coming first of the month.
10k allows us to not worry at all till Feb/March catering/event season comes.
20k means we can invest in some advertisement to promote GrilledCheezGuy SF & catering.
50K pays ALL OUR DEPT and we let you all name some sandwiches.
100K starts the ball rolling on GrilledCheezGuy OAK.
any amount truly will help us pay the bills. I'm not proud of asking at this moment, but I am proud for how hard my staff and all of us have tried to make us much more than just a GrilledCheezGuy biz.
Thank you from the bottom of my cheesy heart for any and all the support you give us at this moment. It means the world.
Love,
Michael GrilledCheezGuy Davidson
