Save Moose From Parvovirus

Donation protected
We are desperately trying to save our 9 week old rescued puppy, Moose, from parvovirus and we need your help!

After tirelessly battling the virus for almost a week, Moose was admitted Friday afternoon to a 24 hour vet hospital when he bottomed out due to loss of fluids earlier that day. He is currently there in critical condition, where he is fighting for his life in ICU.

We are raising these funds to afford Moose 24 hour, ICU care through Sunday night in  to maximize his chances of survival.

This weekend will be pivotal to Moose's survival,
the doctor explained to us. We want to do everything we can to save this poor puppy, but the cost for the around the clock care needed to survive is insurmountable for us to bear alone (The vet has quoted a minimum of $3500 for the weekend). If we are able to meet our goal, Moose will have well over a 50% greater chance of surviving this horrible virus.

Background: Moose was rescued last week from negligent parents who failed to vaccinate him before he contracted parvovirus. They then turned to Craigslist to profit from a sick puppy without ever mentioning he had the virus. Despite these horrible people and their horrible treatment of his, Moose is the best companion I could ever ask for.

We first met at a public park in Kirkland last Wednesday, it was cold and raining. When I saw him sitting amongst his 3 rambunctious brothers and sister, he was shivering wet. As I got close, he ran right to me and plopped his bony butt down between my legs seeking shelter and warmth. It was love at first sight and I knew it was meant to be.

As soon as we got home that night, Moose curled up in my lap and snuggled to my body. My. Heart. Melted. As it turns out, this is his MO: he's a snuggler and couldn't fit in better around here if he tried.

On Sunday, we began to notice a pattern that Moose was vomiting his food and having diarrhea. He also appeared more tired than his Saturday self. On Monday after several bouts, we knew it was time to take him to the vet.

It didn't take more than a minute into discussing his symptoms before the air in the exam room at Banfield was more tense than a war room. The doctor immediately ordered a test for parvovirus and within 10 minutes we were staring at a positive test result.

Come Wednesday, he is still weathering the the virus but I fear he's declining. Poor Moose has been riding out his last 3 days at Banfield from open to close with an IV in, to then come home and sleep in a pallet of blankets in our bathtub. At home, Jenn and I have been taking shifts desperately trying to keep him hydrated and comfortable while coaching him to have the strength to see this through.

It's Wednesday night... we're now over a couple grand deep into the treatment. Due to the swift rising treatment costs, we decide to attempt to fight the virus at home for the next 24 hours. We're been given 2 IV bags, 7 needles, liquid food, pain meds, anti-bacterial and anti-nausea medicine. The doctor at Banfield also equipped us with a rigorous treatment schedule and a "go with God prognosis."

For the next 36 hours, Jenn and I continued our shiftwork. We meticulously documented every fluid and pill intake, bowl and bladder movement, in an effort to determine progress or decline. Although he appeared restless through the night, Moose seemed to begin to rest come Friday morning and his bowel movements were normalizing... I begin to have hope we're on the other side of the sickness... I was wrong.

As it turns out, Moose had lost the enzyme necessary in his veins to retain fluid, so it was seeping out into his lungs and body. This caused him to start to gargle when he would breathe and quickly lose his energy. When the gargling intensified, I took him back to Banfield (seen in the pictures below) and then to the specialist 24 hour care hospital when it became apparent Banfield could no longer care for him properly.

Please help us raise the funds needed to give Moose the opportunity to fight through this terrible virus. Words cannot express how forever grateful we will be if together, we are able to pull off the miracle needed to save our sweet little boy.
Additionally, if we meet our goal and Moose survives parvo, Moose and I promise to start a blog called: "If you give a Moose a mountain" where we will showcase all of our incredible hikes and adventures into the great outdoors for you all to experience with us!

Love,
Tyler, Jennifer, and Moose
