Save Oswald from Parvovirs!
Donation protected
On Sunday, September 25th my husband and I brought the newest addition into our home, Oswald!
Oswald is the sweetest 13 week old Havanese puppy! He immediatly felt at home with us and made it known, he too loves us.
On Tuesday, I noticed that he was feeling tired and started to throw up. I immediately took him for his first puppy visit to the veterinarian and had him tested for parasites.
Wednesday we received confirmation that he had the Parvo virus, which has an extremely high mortality rate for young puppies who are exposed to it. If not treated immediately with intense medical surveillance, the chances of survival are minimal.
On Wednesday night, we admitted him into the VMCLI 24 hour emergency and specialty services to help save his life.
After review of Oswald's medical needs for the first initial night, we were presented with a bill of over $1,300. The doctor's asked us to return at 9:45am to asset his needs for the next few days.
Oswald white blood cell count is normal but his protein, sugar and electrolytes are low. Oswald is a fighter and the doctor believes on a scale of 1-10 he is at a 5 right now. So, as you can imagine we are entirely optimistic.
This morning, we were quoted with another bill resulting in what Oswald will need to help ensure his survival. His medicial needs are estimated around $1,200 a day. Oswald, will need minimal of another 3 days at the emergency veterinary.
After reviewing how the Parvovirus attacks and affects the body, Oswald could need anywhere from 3-12 days of care. We have exhausted all our financial outlets and are turning to prayer, love and the financial support of others.
"Canine parvovirus is a highly contagious viral disease that can produce a life-threatening illness. The virus attacks rapidly dividing cells in a dog’s body, most severely affecting the intestinal tract. Parvovirus also attacks the white blood cells, and when young animals are infected, the virus can damage the heart muscle and cause lifelong cardiac problem". WebMD
Oswald has filled our hearts with an adboundance of love in the short amount of time he's been with us. He has implanted his soul into our hearts and we are forever thankful to have spent these last few days with him. When Andrew and I first held Oswald, we felt as though Oswald had been a piece missing from our hearts, and was that he was meant for us.
From the day we held him, we had a feeling he would be needing us, and in the most gut wrenching way, our intuition was right. We need him more than he can imagine, and we could not imagine our life's now without him.
Please send your prayers to him during this very hard time in the Iovino household. If pray is what you could offer to him, we greatly appreciate any sense of prayer and positivity sent his way.
We hope to save our baby and be with him again real soon.
Sincerely,
Darlene and Andrew Iovino.
