After over a long, difficult, heart-wrenching year, my brother Michael Duffy, passed away on Sunday, May 19th, 2019 @ 4:00 pm. Our mother Corinne, and father Thomas, were with me bedside at the time of his passing at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. He was comfortable, peaceful, loved, and we said goodbye.
It has been an incredibly difficult time for our family over the past year. The daily witnessing of his slow decline from health has been a sorrowing, truly life-altering experience. I have a hard time even fathoming, never mind trying to explain the emotional roller coaster we lived as result of the complications Michael dealt with, from liver disease, throat cancer, immune system shutdown, and eventually respiratory failure.
Through all the challenges, struggles, small victories and setbacks, my brother was a warrior. Over the last year, particularly the final four months of his life, where he was transferred to 5 different hospitals and facilities, was bedridden, depressed, couldn't speak and endured limited cognition for most it... He still fought. He was determined to live. I could see it in him as he would try to express it and show me...
We did everything we could, but in the end, his body succumbed before his spirit.
I want to offer my deepest, bottom of my soul thanks, to everyone who knew and helped Michael during this battle for his life. Your contributions, whether they were emotionally supporting or financially assisting, will always hold dearest places in our hearts.
As we now pick of the pieces and try to find peace, I am now seeking your generosity one last time. The medical costs and supporting financial needs involved during this time have been astronomical and devastating to my family. My parents and I are now faced with the burden of having to deal with the debts associated with Michael's 12-month care, funeral service costs, and simply just the means to support our family moving forward.
I'm asking for any financial contributions you can afford to help aid us at this time. This is something I certainly hoped I would never have to do. It's a tough, raw, all around uncomfortable place to be in, and simply put, anything and everything helps right now.
Please feel free to share this with all you know. Even if you knew my brother or not, I will always remember Michael for representing what is good in the world, and perhaps this relates to that person in your own life that you dearly loved once...
Our thoughts, our hearts, and our love to you all.
Corinne, Tom & Brett

Still smiling :)

First entry, 2018
Our wonderful son Michael 55, is very ill. he was laid off from his N.Y.C. job when his company closed his office last year. We asked him to stay with us, his mom and dad, in Florida for a while, as he had no immediate family in N.Y. he became gravely ill in April (2018) after receiving a sleep medication. he was rushed to the hospital ER by ambulance, and that night had life saving surgery to stop bleeding from his throat. He is now in the Tampa General Hospital liver transplant program, where they routinely monitor his liver condition. Michael has just been diagnosed with throat cancer and needs to get into the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. We do not have the financial means for all the treatments and expenses needed, as we are in our mid seventies and are living on Social Security. Michael has just be approved for disability which will be some help with all of the cost. Any help, including your prayers is greatly appreciated. we would like to raise $50,000 to get us thru the next months of treatment. thank you for your interest in our story.
