10 Year Old Mohamed’s Cause
Mohamed AsSabbagh is a 10yr old Syrian refugee living in Mississauga Ontario. He is fighting for his life.
In 2014 Mohamed was diagnosed with bone marrow failure resulting in Pancytopenia – lack of white and red blood cells, and lack of platelets. Mohamed has no immunity to fight any infections and his blood does not clot. This is fatal if not treated.

Mohamed’s family left Syria at the inception of the civil war and have since spent all of their savings on Mohamed’s treatments in Lebanon. Since his arrival in Canada back in August 2016, Mohamed makes required visits to Sick Kids Hospital twice a week for life-saving blood transfusions.
Mohamed is always connected to a machine which infuses his medication whilst removing the excess iron that has accumulated in his young heart and liver. He is not allowed to attend school or meet new friends for fear of infection.
Mohamed's diagnosis was reconfirmed on the 23rd of February, 2017 after a bone marrow biopsy. In Vitro Fertilization with Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis/ Screening (PGD/ PGS) – a highly successful procedure at Mount Sinai Hospital - is now our only hope to save Mohamed's life - but this is an urgently needed procedure that is not covered by OHIP (medical insurance).
The family has already stretched their government allowance to pay for mandatory household bills and constant transport to and from the hospital for their son. Both parents are caring for their son around the clock and are not currently employed. Mohamed is a funny insightful boy and part of a tight-knit family. Please help these parents secure a future for their oldest son and start a new life in Canada.
We need to raise a minimum of $20,000 to secure the cost of Mohamed’s treatment as this particular urgent procedure is NOT covered by OHIP.
From the day we have the money available, it will take around 12 months for Mohamed to be completely cured as this is one of two procedures needed. The second is an OHIP covered bone marrow transplant.
Please help us ensure AsSabbagh’s family’s future is bright again!

My name is Maggie Amin. I am a community organizer who has done work with Syrian refugees and initiated government programs to benefit them. I live in Oakville, Ontario. I was introduced to AsSabbagh family through a mutual acquaintance as well as a medical professional who thought I could help. After visiting Mohamed last week, I knew action needed to be taken immediately.
I am constantly in touch with Mohamed's parents.
The funds will be withdrawn in my name, Maggie Amin, then transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital towards the PIGD procedure. I will publish the hospital receipt online as soon as it is available. (Edited as per Gofundme's request)
Please do not hesitate to forward your questions. We appreciate donations of any size.
