Help save the world's longest single entrance underwater cave! #SaveaCave
The Ixtlan cave in the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico is the only privately owned huge underwater cave in the region which has been pristinely preserved . Since it's discovery in 2013 and during it's subsequent exploration by the ATI Cave Exploration Team, up to the present day Ixtlan has never been open to the public and has thus been completely protected. The cave is part of a real estate property with a current estimated value of around 3M USD, which, due to unfortunate circumstances is up for immediate sale at a very reduced price. We are trying to raise 500K and this amount will allow us to stop the sale and preserve the cave, and avoid it's commercialization and destruction. A further 750K USD have been pledged offline if we manage to meet this goal.
Why is the Ixtlan cave unique?
The Ixtlan Cave has been featured in the award winning documentary The Unexplored (IMDB) in 2015. The Ixtlan Cave Exploration Project has been the largest and longest running (2013-2019) continuous exploration study of a sidemount cave in the world. It was decided from the very beginning that this cave would not be open to the public or commercialized, and that every effort would be made to preserve it unspoiled and pristine. In 2016, after more than 1400 exploration cave dives, the Ixtlan Cave became the longest single entrance underwater cave in the world with a surveyed length of more than 14 kilometers.

What happens if we don't meet our goal?
500K USD will allow us to stop the sale and preserve the cave. If we can't reach this goal, all funds will go towards preserving the memory of this place in a different way - we will support the creation of a documentary film from the raw video footage of more than 1400+ exploration cave dives, which were made over the last 6 years. Let's hope however that we will be able to preserve this place in a more meaningful way - saving the cave as it is for posterity.
