Young, scrappy, and hungry, this is Alexander Hamilton. AKA, HamilCat, AKA Hammy. He is somewhere around 2-3 years old.
He lived in a home where he was severely neglected, with bad fleas, and a bad flea allergy. He was rescued and taken to SCRAPS in Spokane, WA, where he was given the name of "Freedom." He was ignored by everyone because he looked so scrappy, until one day a teenage girl found him.

She is my sister, Elena. This is the story of her and Hamilton.

Elena has anxiety and lives alone with her mom, who works long hours. They decided that a furry friend was just what she needed, and Elena decided that she wanted to rescue an animal that needed her just as much as she needed him. The first thing little Freedom did upon meeting her was curl up in her lap. It was love at first sight. After she walked away from him, he called after her and stuck his paws out of his cage, something he had never done before. The person at the shelter even cried, because nobody wanted little Freedom, but Elena did. And Freedom wanted her.

Elena, a musical theatre buff, knew she wanted to name her pet after a musical or a musical character. This little kitty named Freedom was "young, scrappy, and hungry," and an "orphan." It only seemed right to name him "Hamilton."

They couldn't take him home just yet, as he hadn't been neutered. The next day he went to be fixed, and the day after that he was able to go home at last.

The very first thing he did was climb right onto Elena's lap.

He was home. And he is so cuddly!

But he wouldn't eat. He wouldn't drink. He seemed to have a cold, that got worse over the next couple of days. They brought him in to the vet after only 2 days home. It isn't looking good. Because of his fleas, he has anemia which wasn't caught before he went home. He has an ulcer in his mouth, and can't currently smell  through his nose because he is so sick. He is on an IV due to severe dehydration, and his immune system is bad. They need to run some tests to check his thyroid still, but it likely isn't in the best shape. They think he may have FIV, or  feline AIDS. If he does, he will need to be put down, but they need more tests done in order to tell if he has it or not. Tests that Elena and her mom can't afford.

The shelter will take him back if Elena and her mom can't afford his care, but the shelter can only do so much with what funds they have.

We don't know if he can be saved or not, but we have to do what we can. He has stolen our hearts, we have to fight for him. Please donate if you can, or spread the word if you don't have the funds. This is an emergency, and we have to raise as much as we can as fast as we can.  We will all be so thankful if you can donate even a dollar, and so thankful in your help to pass this along. Hammy deserves as much care as possible. He's been through so much already.

"I'm young, scrappy, and hungry, and I'm not throwing away my shot!"

Any extra money will be donated to the SCRAPS animal shelter.

UPDATE 8/22/16 3:30 PST: Test for FIV is negative, they would like to put him on a feeding tube, which is also beyond what Elena and her mom can afford. Prayers for Hammy!
