Foundation for Hope Faces Closure.

Lack of Funding leaves important area nonprofit at the brink of closure.

Harrisburg, April 30th, 2015: Since 2011, The Foundation for Hope Inc. has always been dedicated to meeting the needs of those suffering through bullying, depression, or suicide. Through education, intervention, and direct service they aim to teach that bullying is not a rite of passage, depression does not need to last forever, and every life is too precious to loose. After a punishing series of grant rejections, lack of support from private foundations, and a slowdown in individual donations The Foundation for Hope faces closure at the end of June, 2015 due to lack of funding.

Lack of funding does not equal lack of need – Since January 2015, The Foundation for Hope’s HopeLine – a 24hr support and intervention hotline – fielded over 2,000 phone calls and saved the lives of 288 individuals on the brink of suicide. Every 2 hours of every day, a call for help is answered, Every 6 hours a life is saved.

Through their work at the A Place for Hope Community Center hundreds of midstate residents have receive training in areas like Youth Mental Health First Aid, NOVA Basic Crisis Response Training, and Foundation for Hope HopeLine Volunteer Training. Additionally, 412 individuals have attended support groups and have taken advantage of their free counseling programs.

“The Foundation for Hope has positioned our organization to meet growing demand for mental health services, education, and support. As the needs for our services have dramatically increased, financial support from the community has decreased leaving us in a heartbreaking situation where in 2 months we will not have the capacity to provide the help our community desperately needs.” – Jesse Gantt – Founder and CEO

Due to the generosity and dedication of volunteers at all levels of their operations, The Foundation for Hope operates on a budget of under $45,000 per year. Out of every dollar of 85.4cents goes to programs that directly serve the community. The FFH currently has zero employees and no board members or executives receive compensation.

As a tax-exempt 501(c)3 nonprofit, The Foundation for Hope depends on donations from the community and volunteers to operate our programs. We ask, please, for your support and donation to help us answer the call for help.
