Ellie the GREAT's Recovery Fund

Erika Kenney's Great Dane, Ellie, had a cancerous tumor removed on 12/7/2015 (where she had to have her leg amputated). Ellie is not out of the clear yet, her recovery will involve medicine, vet visits, and chemo therapy. Osteosarcomas are really aggressive and metastasize quickly therefore chemo therapy will give         Ellie a really good shot at recovering her health once again.

As Erika's friends, family, and acquaintances we are raising money to help with the financial burden and to help support Ellie (5 years old) in her fight against cancer. Erika is looking at more than $5,000 in veterinary bills so we are hopeful to raise half at $2,500.

If we get 167 friends to support Ellie’s recovery by donating $15 each- we will raise our goal of $2,500! I’m challenging our community to show their compassion by each donating $15 (or more if you are willing) AND share this link to spread word of our campaign. The many laughs and love Ellie and Erika have shown each of us are priceless. This is a chance for us to give back and show them that they have our support in this meaningful fight against cancer. Mahatma Gandhi said “The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”

I’m raising money to fund my sweet Ellie's cancer treatment. She was diagnosed with an osteosarcoma in her hind right leg about a month ago, which is an aggressive bone tumor that metastasizes quickly. She has already had her leg amputated to remove the primary lesion, but she will have to undergo chemotherapy as well because of the cancer's high risk, metastatic nature. One course of chemotherapy costs approximately $3500-$4000. Time is of the essence here so her Oncologist wants to start chemo as soon as her amputation incision has healed, hopefully within the next 10 days to two weeks. I'm still working on coming to terms with Ellie's diagnosis because I was completely blindsided by this. It's hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that the cancer presented so suddenly and that it can progress so rapidly. It feels like a nightmare. This sounds cliché but she is my world and she has my whole heart. She is my baby, I took her home when she was 10 weeks old and I love every minute of being her mom (giant poops included). She's the sweetest, most loving, brightest light in my life. She isn't just a dog to me and my family.. she truly is a member of our family. And it's not just us; everyone who meets Ellie loves her because she is so kind and has such a gentle yet upbeat energy. I will do everything I can to keep her around maintaining the highest quality of life for as long as possible.
