Dreyfus is a 3 year old Leonberger, a yummy, cuddly, playful, happy, loving, giant teddy bear.  At 2 years old, he was diagnosed with Iris Melanoma, an uncommon cancer of the iris, in his left eye.  After various tests, the doctors confirmed that the cancer was contained and believed it safe to assume that after removing the eye, Dreyfus would be able to live a full and healthy life.  After his adjustment period, Dreyfus was doing really well, until a little more than one year later, Dreyfus’ regular doctor was concerned about something she noticed in his right eye and again it was diagnosed to be another cancer - and this time in his right eye.  

So soon after, we must again deal with this horrible invasive disease, and once again, the only way to save his life is to remove his eye – his only remaining good eye.  Our only options are to either allow the cancer to steal our 3 year old baby from us, or to agree to a second devastating and very costly surgery, removing the eye and leaving him permanently sightless. 

Dreyfus is our baby, our child; how can we just give up on our baby?  I cannot bear the thought of losing him – it is just NOT an option.  He is my love of life and we agree that we must find a way to keep him alive and healthy. 

The costs involved for the surgery and for blind-proofing our home are very great – so much greater than we are able to handle ourselves.  We would appreciate ANY help we would be able to get to help us SAVE DREYFUS.  This whole ordeal will require huge adjustments and huge costs – but DREYFUS IS WORTH IT!  We love our dog so much, and his life is worth everything!
