Hi my name is Sally and I'm making this Gofundme for my 20 year old daughter Darian.
In May 2014 when Darian was 18 she was diagnosed with a form of cancer called Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. She endured several rounds of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant using cells donated by her then 15 year old brother Thomas. In December 2014 much to our enormous relief Darian was offically put into remission. Unfortunately our joy was short lived and in February 2015 it was discovered following routine tests that her leukaemia had returned, not in her bone marrow but outside of it, in the form of small tumours on her nerves. This is called Extramedullary Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. This is very rare and in fact her doctor has not treated anyone else with the exact same type of cancer that Darian has as this type of leukaemia usually grows on the skin.
In March 2015 Darian endured more rounds of chemotherapy and a second bone marrow transplant from frozen cells which were left over from the first transplant, Unfortunately this did not clear all of her cancer and the doctors eventually recommended radiotherapy.
So since June 2015 Darian has endured quite a few rounds of radiotherapy on her tumours. Even though it has been successful in getting rid of the tumours more keep popping up in random places so doctors are trying to come up with a way to stop that from happening. Sadly the doctors have run out of options.
Luckily a trial drug became available for regular AML sufferers which Darian was accepted into. After a number of weeks on the drug it was discovered that her leukaemia had progressed meaning the trial had not work and she was taken off it.
Regrettably at this stage there is nothing more the doctors can do in Australia so we have been researching options overseas. There appears to be quite a few hospitals and cancer centres that may be able to offer Darian a treatment or trial to get rid of her cancer. The problem is it costs a lot of money which we don't have. This is why we have decided to set up this fund. We feel it's our last chance to save Darian's life and I'm not ready to lose my daughter. She's 20 years old, and to me that's still my baby. She needs a chance to travel, get married, have children and do all the things a normal 20 year old does. Please if you are able to help at all it would be appreciated more than you could ever know. Every single donation no matter how big or small will help us to get to our goal of saving my beautiful daughter's life.
