Background:

The Bristol Bay region is a place of immense cultural and natural beauty, yet it faces significant economic and educational challenges. One major hurdle is the need for residents to travel outside the region, often out of state, to access high-quality vocational education and training. This not only creates a financial burden for individuals but also drains valuable resources from our community.

Until 2021, SAVEC operated out of remodeled facilities at the former King Salmon Air Force Station. However, when the Air Force ended our lease, we had to move to leased office space, a workshop, and various community facilities. This transition has made it clear that a dedicated, local training facility is essential.

SAVEC’s New Training and Education Center:

Our new facility will transform vocational education in the Bristol Bay region. It will provide a local hub for hands-on training and distance learning programs tailored to our residents’ needs. By offering training in career clusters such as welding, office occupations, construction, driving courses, culinary arts, and building maintenance, we will align our programs with the workforce needs of local employers.

The new center will also host industry-required re-certifications and other essential training programs, significantly reducing the need for out-of-region travel. This will not only retain talent but also keep financial resources within our community, fostering economic growth and resilience.

Current Status:

The facility is currently in the design phase, with. We are planning the project in three construction phases. The first phase involves building a structure that includes administration offices, a dormitory, a kitchen, and common areas, totaling 6,135 square feet. The estimated cost for this initial phase is $7,120,200.
