Help Re-build Sindhupalchok, Nepal

"All we need now is tents and medicines... the situation is getting scary by the day" -Sindhupalchok earthquake victims.
Sindhupalchok is one of the worst hit by the 7.8  earthquake that rocked the country on April 25, 2015. The earthquake destroyed some 80 percent of the 60,000 houses in Sindhupalchok. As of May 1st, 2015 1,746 deaths have been confirmed there and more than 3000 missing. The number could rise higher in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, electricity and communication lines have been cut off across the district, leaving residents even more isolated. Civilians do with their own hands the work of rescuers who haven't arrived yet. Time and money is everything  now as the impending monsoon rains and landslides will cause further havoc to the rescue efforts.

Meet Pandit and Maiya: They came to us as caretakers 10 years ago but have now  become extended family. They both have strong ties to Sindhupalchok which is their ancestral village. Right now, Pandit is trying to secure water supply to the village by collecting pipes and other necessary tools. He visits Kathmandu every 2-3 days to take back more supplies (clothes, food, infrastructure) to his village. According to Pandit, the whole village has "flattened out". There are many who have no shades over their head, who have lost almost everything that took them a lifetime to build.

Why am I personally involved in this fundraising?
My roots go back to Nepal, I was born and raised in Kathmandu even though I have lived half my life here in the US. My parents and relatives still live in Kathmandu. Even though Nepal has received millions in aid from organizations and personal donations, there are villages still yet to receive anything even after a week. It would have been a lot easier for me to choose a charity of my choice but there is uncertainty and fear that the donations received will not be accounted for. I know I can sleep better knowing that this fund will go directly to Pandit and help him in his efforts of re-building. This is the least I could do from this far. My father in Nepal, will be my main contact, he would provide me with updates on the progress made and make sure that the funds are properly accounted for.

Action Plan: I am creating this campaign on behalf of Pandit-Maiya and helping them rebuild their village . Goals to be achieved are:
*Supply clean water for drinking
*Provide tents for shelter in bulk and distribute solar, portable lights
*Provide basic amenities, food supply and medical aid
*Make sure the elderly, the sick and children are prioritised
*Any surviving livestock/animals to be taken to safety
*Construct new sturdy homes from salvaged materials
*Re-build schools and healthcare/hospital centre

I will be regularly updating the activites, progress and utilization of funds on this page so please click on 'subscribe to updates'. Unfortunately, Nepal is not adequately prepared to deal with this scale of catastrophe and I urge everyone to donate whatever they can. Please share this page.
