SAVE Wrexham's Queensway Community Building

Hello! I'm Dianne Hughes, the proud owner of Queensway Community Group CIC and Delta Academy of Dance and Performing Arts which is housed inside our wonderful Queensway Complex, a cornerstone of creativity and inclusivity in the heart of Wrexham. Today, I come to you with an urgent plea to ensure the survival of our beloved Queensway Community Building.

Our landlords are due to retire and will be selling the building. They have been very supportive over the duration of our tenancy and are keen for us to purchase it. We are now in the position of needing to raise significant funds to do just that. The potential consequences if we were to lose the building would be heart-wrenching for our community.

Our Queensway Community Group CIC is a non-profit organisation housed within the complex is a refuge for those affected by Dementia and their carers holding twice monthly Dementia dinners/activities, a nurturing ground for thriving craft and friendship groups, a platform for local talent to shine, and a provider of essential Work Experience for vulnerable groups. We host vital community social events and actively support local initiatives.

This non-profit community group is looking to purchase the property to ensure the building can remain a vibrant hub within the community for many years to come.

In 2017, we made a bold decision to relocate the Delta Academy to our current venue in Caia Park, where we have transformed an old garage into a warm, inclusive space that now houses the Queensway Community Group CIC, Delta studios, the Happy Hedgehog Café and Queensway Craft and Textiles shop. This space has evolved into a crucial lifeline for the community, a sanctuary where people find solace, support, and a sense of belonging.

The Happy Hedgehog community café is a fabulous, welcoming place and a thriving hub in the community. People come in for company or a chat and a cup of tea, often when they are feeling lost and have nowhere else to go.

The dance academy has been a thriving force for almost four decades, providing exceptional training to over 500 children and young adults every week.

Our pupils are offered dance, drama and singing training by our highly qualified, experienced teachers who find their relationships with the students to be multi-faceted - friend, mentor, counsellor, careers adviser and more. They also grow personally in other areas such as life skills, confidence, discipline and respect for others. We strive to allow children from all walks of life to shine and so offer multiple scholarship places.

We put on regular well-loved shows at the William Aston Hall, offer examination curriculum to UCAS points level, but all classes are there for fitness, fun and friends.

The dance academy freely supports many initiatives both in the Caia Park community and across Wrexham.

A recent burglary brought the community's outpouring of support to the forefront, showcasing the profound impact our space has on people's lives. Quotes like "Thank you for getting me out of bed in the morning and back into life's stride" underline the importance of our community building.

Now, we turn to you, for help. Your generous support would enable us to purchase the building and continue making a positive impact here in Wrexham City.
