Every year, an estimated 200,000 wolf dogs are euthanized simply for existing. These extraordinary animals – caught between two worlds – are failed by a system that first allows them to be bred, then condemns them to death when their owners can no longer care for them.
OVER 90% OF WOLF DOGS ARE EUTHANIZED BY THE AGE OF TWO.
But with your help, today, we can save the lives of beautiful, extraordinary wolf dogs that deserve a loving and forever home.
At Black Moon Wolfdog Sanctuary, a registered and 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Washington state, we refuse to let these beloved souls become statistics. When we receive that dreaded call about another wolf dog marked for euthanasia, we feel what you're feeling right now: grief, heartbreak, and sorrow, and it is followed by a fierce determination to help.
THE CRISIS WE FACE:
Imagine being born into a world that has no place for you. That's the reality for wolf dogs across the United States. When backyard breeders sell these magnificent animals to unprepared owners, the story often ends in tragedy:
* Surrendered wolf dogs cannot be legally adopted out from most animal shelters.
* Most states classify wolf dogs as wild animals. Yep, that's right, in plenty of states they are still classified as wolves.
* Special permits and enclosures are required to house wolf dogs.
* In many states, owning wolf dogs is completely illegal and banned.
* Wolf dog sanctuaries do their best, but there are few rescues and sanctuaries able to take on wolf dogs, and they fill up quickly. Each sanctuary can only take on so many of these wonderful souls.
The result? Hundreds of thousands of wolf dogs are euthanized each year, not because they're dangerous, but because they have nowhere else to go.
OUR MISSION AND URGENT NEED:
Black Moon Wolfdog Sanctuary operates on over 2.5 acres of tree-covered haven in Washington, where every wolf dog receives:
* Round-the-clock care and attention. Our pack is our family.
* Room to run and play safely. Our wolfies enjoy the benefit of being loved and snuggled like the giant puppies they are, AND they also get to run free and howl at the moon.
* Proper nutrition and medical care including a special diet, and the added higher costs of veterinary care for wild animals.
* A forever family who understands their unique needs, and will care for them throughout the entirety of their remaining years.
But we're running out of space to save more lives! Right now, we have to turn away desperate calls for help because we simply don't have room. Each "no" potentially means another wolf dog facing euthanasia.
We've been operating for years, and have the licenses, the experience, and the space to welcome more wolf dogs into our pack. It is time for Black Moon Wolfdog Sanctuary to expand!
YOUR DONATION WILL PROVIDE:
New Spacious and Heated Kennels:
Every wolf dog needs ample space outdoors with the necessary containment required to keep them comfortable and cozy. One containment area alone costs $6,000 to properly and safely construct, and each area becomes a safe space for multiple wolf dogs. We are expanding our current number of outdoor areas and kennels so that we can house and foster more wonderful wolf dogs.
New Perimeter Fencing:
You know how dogs just love to run? Well, wolf dogs REALLY love to run! As pack animals, they have a deep drive to chase, run, roll around, and play. If you've ever owned a husky, you know what escape artists they can be! Wolf dogs are like that, but even rowdier! Our wolf dogs require large play areas for pack interaction, and to keep them happy, healthy, and entertained.
Medical Care for Neglected, Malnourished, and Recovering Wolf Dogs:
It is heartbreaking to admit, but many wolf dogs are neglected and abused. Due to their wilder habits, and their tendency to sometimes be more shy and aloof, they can be harder to train for inexperienced owners. Many wolf dogs end up abandoned, alone, and isolated, and chained up in backyards exposed to the elements. Some have injuries, are underweight, and some have been traumatized due to their living situations. These gentle, misunderstood animals need extra love and care. Frequently, people that purchase wolf dogs do not spay or neuter them, because they are hoping to become backyard breeders themselves. The cost of spaying/neutering a wolf dog is $600 locally, a price tag that a lot of people simply do not want to pay. Your donations secure top-quality care for our entire pack.
Cameras For Added Security and Safety:
Not everybody wants wolf dogs around, and not all of our neighbors believe that animal sanctuaries should even exist. We have been cyber-stalked, followed around town, and threatened for years, because some folks don't believe in non-profit animal sanctuaries. They say we are wasting money, and wasting our lives, and tell us that we don't have jobs that are real or important. It's really hard to believe, but people have threatened the safety of our wolf dogs for no reason whatsoever. Due to this, we'd LOVE to add cameras and additional fencing to ensure our safety, and the safety of our pack!
