SAVE White Potato “SPUD” Lake, Wis

This fundraiser is to SAVE White Potato Lake in Pound, Wisconsin. The White Potato Lake (WPL) and Lagoon is infected with EWM (Eurasian Water Milfoil). The Lagoon is extremely thick in Milfoil. Every boat exiting the lagoon or entering the lake has the potential to spread plant fragments. EWM plants have been detected and spread to several other locations within the lake.

Under the direction of the White Potato Lake Management Committee (WPLMC), Diver Assisted Suction Harvesting (DASH) boats and hand harvesting techniques have been used the last 3 years. THAT FUNDING IS DEPLETED! We NOW need YOUR help

On-going control efforts are the only hope for some level of containment of this invasive weed.

Possibility of cross pollinate and hybridize with native Northern Milfoil is a very real concern. A hybrid could grow more aggressively becoming resistant to commonly used herbicides, which has happened on other lakes. We have seen Milfoil as long as 4 feet but records show that it can grow over 25 feet in length. The WPLMC will seek additional grants and private donations to offset the EWM treatment costs.

THE LAKE NEEDS YOUR HELP. If the efforts to clear the lake of Milfoil cease, there will not be any fish, Milfoil dissolves oxygen concentration; decreases light penetration which is no longer suitable for fish habitat. Once light decreases water fouls no long feed on that lake.

If this lake turns into a weed patch there will be no swimming, boating, or fishing.
