The Ask
While we hope that a preliminary injunction will allow for the UConn women's rowing team to be reinstated, we are prepared to fight for our team, rowing teams across the country, and the future of women in sport. We are raising $50,000 to cover expert witness fees for the legal case. If any capital remains that is not expended on experts and associated legal fees, those funds will be used to support the future women's rowing team at UConn.
How You Can Help
We are asking student-athletes, alumni, parents, former rowers, coaches, community members and individuals from across the country to come together in support of our efforts to save UConn women's rowing. Share this with your friends, family, rowing community, sports organizations... Help us fight this injustice before the rights of past, present, and future women athletes at UConn and across the country are disregarded and stripped away. Shoutout to the 1976 Yale women’s rowing team!
Background
On the morning of June 24, 2020, the University of Connecticut announced that it would no longer sponsor the UConn women's rowing team. The elimination of Women’s Varsity Rowing is in violation of Title IX, a law which states that equal opportunities must be provided for both male and female athletes. A total of three other programs were cut by UConn-- including men’s swimming and diving, tennis, and cross country. Even if UConn proceeds with the elimination of our rowing team, the University would still not be in compliance with Title IX.
From all of us associated with UConn women's rowing, THANK YOU!!!
