ABOUT US
We are two international students from India who recently graduated in December 2024 and are pursuing our dreams in the United States. However, an overwhelming financial and legal crisis has threatened everything we’ve worked for. This situation has left us desperate and in need of help to defend ourselves against an unjust claim.
WHAT HAPPENED
On October 30, 2024, I was asked by someone I trusted—a person I considered an uncle—to drive a rental car for a personal errand. I reluctantly agreed, unaware of the risks or the details of the rental arrangement.
Here’s what happened:
1. The Car Rental Agreement : The car was rented under another student’s name without their full awareness. I was not listed as an authorized driver and had no knowledge of the insurance or liability status.
2. The Accident : While driving, a white Nissan Frontier with faulty brake lights suddenly swerved into my lane. The car in front of me performed panic braking, leading to an unavoidable accident. The vehicle responsible fled the scene, leaving me and the other driver as victims.
3. The Consequences : The rental company is holding us responsible for $9,500 in damages, even though I was neither the lessee nor aware of the arrangement. The "uncle," who orchestrated everything, has disappeared and refuses to take responsibility.
WHY THIS IS UNFAIR
1. No Legal Agreement : I did not rent the car, sign any agreements, or consent to liability for the rental vehicle.
2. Betrayal of Trust : The person who arranged this rental misused my trust and abandoned me during this crisis.
3. I was unaware of the full details of the rental arrangement, including any insurance coverage. The vehicle’s liability status was not disclosed to me at the time I was asked to drive.
4. Refusal to Negotiate : The rental company has rejected all attempts to resolve the matter reasonably and is threatening to escalate the issue legally.
HOW THIS AFFECTS OUR FUTURE
As recent graduates with limited financial resources, this crisis has devastating implications for us:
Legal Action : A lawsuit could jeopardize our futures, including career opportunities.
Credit Damage : If this is sent to collections, it could severely harm our credit scores, affecting housing, loans, and job opportunities.
Emotional and Mental Health : The stress and anxiety have left us unable to focus on our next steps, as we feel trapped by this situation.
Financial Hardship : Without the means to pay the claim, we are struggling with basic expenses like rent and food.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
We are humbly asking for your support to raise "$9,500", which will help us:
- Cover legal fees and costs associated with defending against these claims.
- Address the financial burden of this crisis to avoid escalation.
Every donation, no matter how small, brings us closer to resolving this crisis. If you cannot contribute, simply sharing this campaign with your network would mean the world to us.
TRANSPARENCY AND PROOF
To ensure transparency, any funds raised will be used solely to address this crisis. Updates on the situation and fund usage will be shared regularly, and proof of payments or legal expenses will be provided upon request.
THANK YOU
Your kindness and generosity will help us defend ourselves, protect our futures, and move past this crisis. We are deeply grateful for your support.
With gratitude,
Two Students in Distress
