Tuxie the tuxedo cat first came to our backyard in February 2021, hungry and hurt. My husband Eddie put food out for him but was unable to catch him until now to take him to the SPCA for emergency care.
Tuxie has a "large and deep laceration wound" on his neck behind his jaw — he may have been bitten by a predator or cut on barbed wire or glass.
Drs. Polly James and Moses Bosire cared for Tuxie last night and this morning. They cleaned and stitched the wound and did a general exam. Tuxie is in great health other than the wound, but there's a "high likelihood" that the sutures will come undone because there isn't enough fresh skin to hold them together.
For this reason, Tuxie needs to stay in the hospital for 2 to 3 weeks under medical boarding while he heals.
We are grateful for any amount of support you can offer to help us offset the cost of Tuxie's care — even donations of $5 or $10 will get us there if enough of us pitch in. Your donation will be used to help pay for Tuxie's:
• Emergency room exam
• Wound surgery
• Antibiotics
• Medical room and board for 3 weeks
• Neuter surgery
• Microchipping
• Vaccinations
Tuxie didn't have a collar and the vet didn't find a microchip, but he's been surprisingly docile. Because of his friendliness and social skills, we think Tuxie may have either gotten lost or left behind when someone moved. He's been in our backyard with our 4 cats without fighting, which says a lot because when other male cats in the neighborhood have come into our yard, they've been aggressive and territorial, whether feral or domesticated. And when Eddie caught him in the cat-trapping cage, Tuxie didn't hiss or swat, as many do.
We plan to get Tuxie adopted once he has recovered, if we can't find an owner. Whether you're able to donate here or not, please let us know if you're interested in adopting Tuxie, or if you know someone who might be.
Thank you so much for reading this far — and a thousand thanks if you're able to donate. We know these are tough times and the high cost of saving a cat's life may not sit well with everyone. But if you have the means and willingness, we are grateful.
xoxo,
Kim & Eddie
