Save Rathnew's Tinakilly
Donation protected
Hi my name is Claire and I am part of the Save Rathnew's Tinakilly campaign.
We oppose the large scale development of 4 story apartment blocks and 100s of houses at Tinakilly and the destruction of the beautiful avenue with a road which will be built right through the middle of this historic avenue.
The development will result in removal of trees from Tinakilly Avenue many of which are 100s of years old and house many animals including bat's which are a protected species under European Law.
This road in effect is being built to service 2 housing estates
The Avenue would be decimated and will destroy the heritage of Rathnew which has been woven into the fabric of the community for generations.
The development will be built on the only green space in our community which is steeped in history and tradition. In effect the village will become a concrete jungle. It will put significant pressure on the infrastructure of the village which doesn't have the capabilities to support it.
The building of such a development will also have a direct major impact on the local environment, wildlife, and marine life that inhabit the area.
The proposed houses will also destroy a known fairy tree which for generations has been part of Rathnew's local history and folklore.
Unfortunately Wicklow County Council have granted permission for this road and development and signed off on the destruction of this beautiful and historic avenue. We have one last hope to fight this by submitting a further appeal to An Bord Pleanala. We have a planner who is willing to submit an appeal on our behalf but as we are a group of individuals we don't have the funds to pay for this service ourselves. We therefore are asking our friends and members of Rathnew community to help us to appeal this decision by supporting us with a small donation. We understand times are tough for all so any donation at all will be of help.
Please help us to save this beautiful piece of nature so this can be enjoyed by generations to come
